Liquid Lipstick Ranking for Dry Lips January 25, 2020
Remember when liquid lipsticks used to be the only lip products used by beauty influencers? As someone with dry lips with fine lines, find the right liquid lipsticks has always been a struggle. In today’s post, I will be sharing my liquid lipstick ranking for dry lips.
So if you have dry or lips with fine lines, please keep reading.

Liquid Lipstick Ranking for Dry Lips
10 | Melt Cosmetics Liquid Set Lipstick – Circuit (CF)
First, y’all know that I am a huge Melt Cosmetics fan. In fact, I own nearly all of the brand’s palettes. However, the Liquid Set Lipstick formula is in last place in my liquid lipstick ranking *purely* based on the color that I own, Circuit.*
The formula isn’t particularly drying, but definitely wears away patchily throughout the day. I am unsure whether the color itself is the issue or whether it is the formula. Read my review on the Melt Cosmetics Blueprint collection for my full thoughts.
9 | ColourPop – Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick in Star Crossed ($7.00, CF)
The ColourPop Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick has grown on me over the years; however, it still is not a favorite formula. Fellow friends with dry lips beware that the ColourPop Ultra Matte formula can dry out the lips. That being said, the color, Star Crossed, is a beautiful vibrant berry red.
See where my vibrant ColourPop Bullet Lipsticks ranked in my bold bullet lipstick ranking.
8 | Stila – Mini Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick – Patina ($22.00. CF)
Stila’s Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick in Patina* a cult-classic liquid lipstick. This pinky-toned liquid lipstick compliments so many skin tones. However, on me, Patina pulls a little too pink than I normally go for. Also, similar to my mini Tarteist Matte Lip Paint, Patina’s small size makes its easy to get lost in my collection.
7 | Tarte – Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint in Birthday Suit ($20.00, CF)
Despite being lower down on this list, I really enjoy my deluxe mini Tarteist Creamy Matte Lip Paint.* For my skin tone, Birthday Suit is a beautiful MLBB lipstick. Also, the formula feels creamy and non-drying. Ultimately, the reason that this is ranked lower in my collection is solely due to the mini size. It gets lost in my collection sometimes.
6 | Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick ($20.00, CF)
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Lipstick formula. Similar to other liquid liquid lipsticks in this roundup, the formula is thin and lightweight. Also, it fully dries down without drying out the lips. I own the shades Spice Girl* and Venus.*
However, this liquid lipstick formula can be messy and takes a longer time to dry. The watery formula may spread outside the lip line or onto the teeth if too much is applied or if a lip liner is not applied. For this reason, this is a formula that I reach for on the days that I know I have time to touch up before I leave the house.
Despite the above flaws, I want to try more shades in the range. Huda is one of my all-time favorite brands – check out my Huda Beauty Palette ranking.

Tarte, Melt Cosmetics, Stila, ColourPop
6 | ColourPop – Lux Liquid Lipstick in Beast ($9.00, CF)
ColourPop’s Lux Liquid Lipstick formula impressed me more than I expected. I own the shade Beast, a mid-tone pink nude, lipstick released as a part of the ColourPop x Disney Designer Midnight Masquerade collection.
Not only do I enjoy the shade I own, but this is a very close dupe to the Kylie Cosmetics Lip Blush formula. The formula is lightweight and comfortable. As such, it provides a diffused flush of color to the lips. However, the shade Beast is even more sheer than the Lip Blush shades that own.
See where the Midnight Masquerade Blushes rank within my Blush Ranking or read about the ColourPop x Disney Villains collaboration.
5 | Ofra x Samantha March Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick ($25.00, CF)
Y’all know that Samantha March is one of my favorite creators, so I picked up the entire Ofra x Samantha March Collaboration. Prior to picking up this collection, I never tried the Ofra Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick formula. I was excited to try Samantha’s collaboration shade, Story*, which is a deep mauve-toned nude.
Ofra’s formula is one of the creamiest liquid lipstick formulas I’ve tried. However, it fully dries down to a soft matte finish with opaque color payoff. The only con with this particular liquid lipsticks shade is that it cannot be purchased as a single – only in the lip duo bundle.
4 | Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color ($25.00, CF)
The Fenty Beauty Stunna Lip Paint Longwear Fluid Lip Color became a surprise favorite in my collection in 2020. After picking up the shades Unbutton* and Uncuffed*, two light-toned nude shades, I fell in love with the formula.
The consistency is thinner than some of the liquid lipsticks mentioned in my liquid lipstick ranking for dry lips. For this reason, I suggest applying chapstick prior to application. However, I love how these liquid lipsticks wear throughout the day.
See where my Fenty Sun Stalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer landed in my bronzer ranking.
3 | Dose of Colors Liquid Lipstick ($18.00, CF)
Believe it or not, until I received one of the Dose of Colors Liquid Lipsticks in my November Boxycharm, I never tried the hyped formula. Nude Mood is a beautiful, nude shade for fair skin. Also, I love that the formula fully dries down and lasts all day, without sucking all the life out of my lips.
I definitely want to try more liquid lipsticks from the brand. See where my beloved Dose of Colors Lip Glosses rank in my ultimate lip gloss ranking.
2 | Kylie Cosmetics – Lip Blush Liquid Lipsticks ($16.00, CF)
Despite all of the naysayers, I stand by my opinion that Kyle Cosmetics brand makes some beautiful, high-quality products. In fact, the Kylie Cosmetics High Glosses are a favorite formula.
As brand manufactured by Seed Beauty, how could they not? Moreover, it makes sense that Kylie’s liquid lipstick formula is good, given that liquid lipsticks were the brand’s original core offering.
That being said, the brand’s Lip Blush Liquid Lipstick formula is my favorite. The Kylie Lip Blushes are an ultra lightweight liquid lipstick formula that provides a sheer wash of color to the lips. The formula is comfortable and very natural; however, it is not long-lasting like others on this list.
The Lip Blushes are a great liquid lipstick option for anyone with dry lips. I own the shades Bikini Bod & Boss Bay (discontinued). I’d love to grab more from the lip blush line.
1 | Persona Cosmetics – Season One Matte Liquid Lipsticks ($16.00, CF)
If y’all have been around my blog for any period of time, then you know that Persona is one of my favorite brands. I’ve followed the brand’s founder on social media for some time. Moreover, I appreciate the brand’s thoughtful, slow approach to beauty.
The Persona Season One Liquid Lipsticks formula is my favorite liquid lipstick formula. Not only is the formula lightweight and comfortable, but it is long-lasting without drying out my lips. Holy Grail* and Phoenix* are my go-to red liquid lipsticks, while OG* is a staple nude. Read my full review on the Season One Liquid Lipstick formula. P.S. these liquid lipsticks are perfectly paired with the Persona Season One Lip Glosses.

Please note: During 6/2020, this liquid lipsticks ranking for dry lips was updated to reflect new additions to my liquid lipstick collection. New entrants to the ranking include Fenty Beauty, Huda Beauty, and Ofra.
Final Thoughts on My Liquid Lipstick Ranking for Dry Lips
Overall, I prefer bullet lipstick formulas to liquid lipstick formulas due to the finish and comfort that bullet lipsticks provide. That being said, I was happy to put together this post ranking liquid lipsticks for dry lips.
Over the years, liquid lipsticks have declined in popularity but improved in formula. Maybe the decline in popularity caused brands to reformulate or maybe the bad formulas just stopped being made. Whatever the reason, there are many more non-drying liquid lipstick formulas available today.
Ultimately, liquid lipsticks will never be as comfortable as a traditional lipstick. However, they typically make up for that deficiency by offering a longer wear-time.
Finally, there are steps that can be taken to prevent liquid lipsticks from drying out your lips. First, apply a lip balm and/or a lip primer and let those products set while you do the rest of your makeup. Then, apply a creamy lip liner. Next, apply a thin layer of your preferred liquid lipstick. Go in with a second layer if needed. Finally, apply a lip gloss to add a glossy shine and hydration to the lips.

What a great collection you have !I like the range of colours too! 🙂 thanks for sharing your review 🙂
Hope that you are having a lovely weekend 🙂
I used to avoid liquid lipsticks too because they tend to dry out my skin but recently I’ve been using the Kat Von D ones and they’ve been really great and don’t dry out my lips at all!
Have you tried the Morphe liquid lipsticks? It’s a great product especially for the price! I have a few shades, they’re long-wearing and I find they don’t get crusty the way some do 🙂
I’ve actually never tried anything from Morphe before – not even brushes! But that is really great to know because my lips get dried out so so easily!
I like them a lot! Recently, I tried their concealer too. I got it for $4 (regular $9) and it was awesome as well!
I love reading your makeup ranking collections, I always find them very insightful and helpful and I keep them in mind when I’m making beauty purchases of my own as I trust your opinion. I actually got the Glossier Cloud Paint due to your high praise!
I love a liquid lipstick so this post was great for me. That Stila Patina shade is stunning (although I’ve got very similar colours)!
Lol, I felt ya when you said about wearing that vibrant blue colour. I always want to rock a bright, colourful and bold lip but because my lips are quite big, I feel like it’s just way too much colour and it swamps my face :’) I bet that blue looks wicked on you! Pictures please!
ooo I hope that you love the cloud paints and don’t feel disappointed with my recommendation!
And I’ll have to whip out the blue liquid lipstick again for a photo… maybe I’ll do a fully monochromatic look lol
You only have 8 liquid lipsticks? Girl please teach me your ways!! My drawer is nuts lol.
That blue shade though! I love it even though I would be way too scared to actually wear it myself.
lol I used to have more (but never a huge amount) – I just never used these as much as traditional bullet lipsticks b/c my lips are so prone to getting dry. X_X
I have my own lip cosmetics collection, it seems like I love collecting lipped! I rarely use liquid lipsticks, if I have to use anything liquid I lean more toward lip stains (lip tints). You have a lovely collection though! Great post ♡
—Athena Christy
I really want to get more into tints because I really like how soft and diffused they look on the lips!
I totally noticed that liquid lippies don’t apply well over a lip balm, I hate that because like you said, most of them are super drying! The DOSE one sounds almost too good to be true. Glad you were able to try it!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Huda ones! 😊
Spoiler: I love the Huda ones BUT based on how you felt about the Liquid Lippies that you recently reviewed from Influenster you may not enjoy these. They are super comfortable, opaque, and non-drying (for a liquid lip), BUT they make a mess while they dry down. So I got liquid lipstick all over my teeth…. however once everything set down, I was fully obsessed with the end result.
