I have a makeup addiction. I’m constantly buying and trying new makeup. Although I own a lot of makeup, I do make an effort to use my cosmetic purchases. As someone who tries a lot of formulas and who wears makeup daily, I decided to chronicle my beauty collection, by category.
In my inaugural post, I reviewed and ranked my blushes and in today’s post, I will be ranking my bronzer collection. Please keep reading to find your next favorite bronzer!
Bronzer Collection | What is the difference between bronzer and contour?
Although the terms bronzer and contour are often used interchangeably in the beauty community, these two products are completely different from one another.
Bronzer: A powder, cream, or liquid cosmetic product that is meant to bring life and warmth to the cheeks. Bronzer gives the skin a sun-kissed glow or sun-tanned appearance. The finish can be matte or shimmery. Undertones may range from yellow to orange, to olive and red.
Contour: A powder, cream, or liquid cosmetic product that is meant to add definition to the face. Popular places to add definition are the jawline, cheekbones, forehead, and nose. Contouring can be achieved through contouring products, as well products like foundation, concealer, or cool-toned bronzer.
A key difference between a contour product and a bronzer is that contour products are cool or neutral in undertone. Unlike bronzer, contour is meant to create shadow and definition on the face.
Now that we’ve established the difference between the Bronzers and Contours, let’s begin the bronzer collection collection.
Creme Bronzer Collection Ranking
My creme bronzer and contour collection is small. Ranking these creme products was hard for me.
3 | Milk Makeup Matte Radiance Baked Bronzer (CF, $24.00 USD)
The Milk Makeup Matte Radiance Baked Bronzer is hyped for good reason – this is a super flattering, easy to blend, natural-looking bronzer that works on a wide range of skin types and skin tones. Plus, this is a HUGE bronzer so the price is well worth it. Read my Milk Makeup Brand Review here.
2 | Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand (CF, $68.00 USD)
I realize how boujee I must look right now, but the Hollywood Contour Wand from Charlotte Tilbury is a stunning liquid contour that is easy to apply. Although it looks way too dark for fair skin when first applied, it blends on the skin in a very natural fashion. One major con to this contour is that buyers receive very little product.
1 | KKW Beauty Cream Contour Stick – Light 1, (CF, $18.00 USD)
Honestly, I’ve fallen in love with the KKW Beauty Cream Contour Stick and it has become a daily staple in my routine. Despite my original skepticism of KKW Beauty, I’ve enjoyed many of the products I’ve tried from the brand so far. Check out my KKW Haul here.
Powder Bronzer Collection Ranking
My powder bronzer ranking was much easier than my creme bronzer ranking. The products I reach for most often naturally gravitated towards the top of my collection ranking.
9 | MAC x Disney Aladdin Collection Powder Blush (Bronzer) – Your Wish is My Command ($35.00 USD)
To be fair, MAC technically defines the Limited Edition Your Wish is My Command Powder as a blush, not a bronzer. Packaging and Aladdin imprint aside, I don’t love this MAC bronzer. The shade too dark for me. The bronzer applies patchily compared to the other bronzers in my collection. Check out my Aladdin Collection Review here.
8 | Anastasia Beverly Hills – Powder Bronzer – Rosewood (CF, $28.00 USD)
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Powder Bronzer in the shade Rosewood was a purchase I made during the Ulta 21 Days of Beauty. I rarely reach for the Rosewood Bronzer in my collection. This bronzer is too pigmented, so it is easy for me to go overboard with it.
If you’re from the US and you are a deeper complexion than I am, nearly all the shades in the ABH Bronzer line are being sold at TJ Maxx and Marshalls.
7 | Cover FX Monochromatic Bronzer Duo – Sunkissed Bronze (CF, $38.00 USD)
I wanted to love this bronzer, but I just don’t reach for it like I hoped I would. Similarly to the MAC x Aladdin Bronzer, the Cover FX Sunkissed Bronzer Duo doesn’t blend as easily as others. Sometimes, this this bronzer applies perfectly. Other times, I struggle to make this work. It isn’t reliable.
6 | Tom Ford Soleil Glow Bronzer – Gold Dust ($112.00 USD)
First, I did not pay $112.00 USD for this Tom Ford Bronzer. I purchased the Soleil Glow Bronzer at 60% Off.
Do I feel luxurious when I use this bronzer? Yes. However, I am cautious to recommend this to others given the steep price tag.
5 | NARS Sunwash Diffusing Bronzer – Seaside ($40.00 USD)
I found the NARS Sunwash Diffusing Bronzer heavily discounted at Marshalls. I’ve loved this bronzer ever since. It provides a beautiful, diffused looking sun-kissed wash of color to the skin. The bronzer never looks flat or matte. While the color is warm, it doesn’t pull orange.
4 | Urban Decay Beached Bronzer – Sun-Kissed (CF, 31.00 USD)
When the Urban Decay Beached Bronzer first released a few years ago, I longed for it. This bronzer provides the most natural, radiant satin bronze to the cheeks. Plus, the packaging is so stunning and beachy.
3 | Fenty Sunstalk’r Instant Warmth Bronzer – Shady Biz (CF, $30.00 USD)
The Fenty Sunstalk’r Bronzer was not an instant love. I contemplated returning this bronzer. I had trouble blending. The shade Shady Biz seems to pull very orange.
Determined to make this work, I discovered that the bronzer performs better after working past the top layer of product. When applied with a duo-fiber brush, Shady Biz provides radiant warmth to the cheeks.
2 | Milani Silky Matte Bronzing Powder – 01 Sun Light (CF, $9.99 USD)
Wow. The Milani Silky Matte Bronzer Powder is a gorgeous, affordable bronzer that provides instant warmth to the cheeks without looking flat or pulling to orange. Read my Milani Soft & Sultry Eyeshadow Palette & the Milani Eye Primer.
1 | Physician’s Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer – Bronzer (CF, $15.99 USD)
I finished my original Butter Bronzer COMPLETELY this year! Out of all the bronzers I’ve owned, high end and affordable, the Murumuru Butter Bronzer is my all-time favorite. It is buildable, easy to blend, and smells delightful.
Note: my Too Faced Natural Lust Bronzer and MAC x Aaliyah Bronzers are not yet ranked in my collection as they are still “new” to me.
Final Thoughts on my Bronzer Collection & Ranking
When it comes to bronzers and contours, ease of application and a natural-looking finish are the two most important attributes. I don’t reach for bronzing and contouring products that cause me to unintentionally mess up my makeup.
Interestingly, I tend to love and reach for my affordable, drugstore bronzers more than the high-end ones. This is a signal that I need to slow down on high-end bronzer and contour purchases. If I buy more bronzers, I will have to try more from the drug store.
Disclaimer: I am in no way intending to brag about my beauty collection or to show off any wealth. I work hard to buy what I own and so much of what is in my collection has been purchased at a discount or given to me as a gift. Moreover, these items have been gathered over the years.
