Beauty Products YouTube Made Me Buy June 5, 2018
It is hard to imagine the beauty community before YouTube. However, there was once a time when I learned about new releases purely by strolling down the aisles of my favorite drugstore or beauty retailers. However, nowadays it feels like there is a never-ending list of beauty products that YouTube made me buy.
All in all, I will admit that joining the online beauty community has been wonderful for making new friends, exploring my passion for beauty, and learning new skills. However, since joining the beauty community, my wallet feels like its been sucked dry.

Maybelline – Age Rewind Concealer
Even though I suffered from cystic acne for a long time, I didn’t start wearing concealer until I reached college. However, by that time, my main concern was hiding the wrinkles and dark circles caused by sleepless nights studying and hanging out with friends.
For years, my go-to concealer was from CoverFX. However, I kept hearing my favorite Beauty Gurus on YouTube speaking highly of the Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer. Most notably, Tati Westbrook raved about this concealer in countless videos.
Eventually I picked up the Age Rewind concealer and I loved it. The Age Rewind formula provides lightweight medium converge that blends easily, and does not settle into fine lines. Also, in addition to minimizing the appearance of my under-eye bags, this concealer works well for brightening other points of the face.
However,, this concealer is not flawless. More specifically, the sponge tip applicator is a huge flaw. While the sponge itself works quite well, I always have to remove the sponge after some time. As the concealer ages, the sponge tip becomes dirty and can cause acne.
See where this concealer ranks in my concealer ranking for dark circles.
Physicians Formula – Butter Bronzer
For a hot minute, the Butter Bronzer was everywhere on YouTube. At the time this bronzer was still making its rounds across the larger influencers’ channels, I stumbled across a Kathleen Lights video where she spoke so highly of this bronzer.
The Butter Bronzer is a staple in my collection – see where it lands in my bronzer ranking. I love the warm, buttery scent, buildable formula and sun kissed undertone. Although the bronzer is expensive for a drugstore product, it is worth every single penny.
Juvia’s Place – Nubian Platte
In 2016, Juvia’s Place exploded on YouTube. Although the brand had been around for sometime, NikkiTutorials truly catapulted the brand to mainstream success by raving about the brands incredibly pigmented formula and accessible price points. After Nikki’s reviews, other big beauty names quickly rushed to try the brand.
As a result, I picked up the Nubian Palette in 2016 (p.s. read my Nubian Palette review) and have been a fan of the brand ever since. To this day, I still receive compliments when I wear this palette on my lids.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Dip Brow Pomade
Remember when the Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Dip Brow Pomade* was like the only brow product used by influencers? Over the years, nearly every influencer I’ve watched has spoken favorably about Anastasia Beverly Hill’s cult classic brow product.
Eventually I picked up a jar of this pomade; however, I rarely reached for it. In general, I find pomades difficult to use on a daily basis. Pomades take more time and effort to apply than a pencil. Also, pomades can easily look too harsh. I regret purchasing this product.

Anastasia Beverly Hills – Liquid Lipsticks
Anastasia Beverly Hills was one of the first brands to capitalize on the Liquid Lipstick trend in 2015 and 2016. Pure Hollywood* was raved about by everyone on YouTube. Needless to say, I purchased Pure Hollywood, as well as other shades that were released years later.
I like the Anastasia Beverly Hills formulation, but I don’t typically reach for liquid lipsticks. I’ve always preferred nude bullet lipsticks with a cream or satin finish. However, I loved Pure Hollywood for a long time. See how I ranked my liquid lipsticks.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Master By Mario Palette
Believe it or not, I actually purchased the Modern Renaissance on a whim. I never saw a single review, but came across the palette on the day it launched.
That being said, I seemed unable to escape the Master by Mario frenzy that was sweeping across YouTube. However, I could not have cared any less about the Master by Mario Palette any less at the time it was released.
I was just beginning to recognize my problem with buying makeup. As a result, I was actively avoiding product reviews. Rather than watching reviews, I found myself gravitating towards decluttering videos.
Eventually, I stumbled upon Mariah Leonard’s video reviewing the Master by Mario palette. Suddenly, I needed this pallet. Thankfully, Macy’s still had a few of these palette in stock.
To this day, the Master by Mario Palette is one of my most beloved eyeshadow palettes and my favorite palette from Anastasia Beverly Hills. See where the rest of my palettes landed in my Anastasia Beverly Hills Palette ranking.
I purchased this palette and it is one of my all-time favorite eye shadow palettes due to the versatile selection of neutrals. The colors are great for creating everyday looks or full-glam looks.
The Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadow formula is super soft and powdery. The shadows produce a lot of kickback and can cause fallout, but are easy to blend.
bareMinerals – Liquid Lipsticks
The bareMinerals GEN NUDE liquid lipsticks and lip glosses took the beauty community by storm. Not only did the brand launch an inclusive line of nudes, but the formula was unlike many of the dry, crusty formulas released up to that time.
Instead, the brand released an ultra creamy, comfortable formula. These are a wonderful option or beauty lovers that like the look of liquid lipsticks but need the comfort of a bullet lipstick. The above being said, the formula takes a long time to dry so it lacks the typical longevity of a liquid lipstick.
Final Thoughts on the Beauty Products YouTube Made Me Buy
I am still on a journey to become a smarter shopper. Although I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll never be a minimalist, I find these types of introspective posts helpful for me to progress in my journey.
Although I am accountable for my own bad shopping habits, YouTube continues to play a negative role in my beauty buying habits. As a result, I’ve unfollowed many beauty-based accounts on YouTube.

You’re so lucky to have got your hands on the Mario palette!
Thank you so much for leaving a comment! βΊοΈ
I remember being so shocked I found it, but Macy’s (and other department stores) sometimes have some awesome steals!!
I’m so sad it was a limited edition :'(
I use the Maybelline Age Rewinder as well, and love it, but the sponge tip grosses me out after a few uses. I’m scared to try out the Physician’s Formula Butter Bronzer because every shade I have come across is too warm for my skin tone π I HATE brow pomades because I prefer a more natural brow look while I’m letting mine grow out. I love that you have such a large collection!

Definitely agree about the sponge applicator – it’s a shame that it can’t be cleaned more easily. π
