The Must-Have Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection December 10, 2019
My heart stopped beating when TrendMood first teased images of the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection. The he vibrant and curated color story of Melt’s stunning holiday collection drew me in. For weeks, I stalked this collection online.
When Melt Cosmetics leaked an early pre-release on its site, I flew across the room with my laptop in hand. I purchased the Muerte Palette, Illuminación Highlighter, and two of the new gel liners. But does the collection live up to the hype? Keep reading for an in-depth review of the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection.
What is the Inspiration Behind the Amor Eterno Collection?
The Amor Eterno Collection is one of the most unique and well-thought-out holiday collections that released in recent years. Strongly inspired by co-founder, Lora Arellano’s Mexican heritage and culture, the collection radiates authenticity. Watch RawBeautyKristi’s review video to hear Lora’s heartfelt PR letter that describes the inspiration behind the collection.
Inspired by the Mexican holiday, Dia De Los Muertos or Day of the Dead, the collection shines. During Dia De Los Muertos, family and friends gather together to remember and pray for their loved ones who passed away. Rather than viewing this day in somber sorrow, people celebrate life.
Translated into English, ‘Amor Eterno’ means ‘Eternal Love.’ The Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection celebrates the joy of life and the eternal love that we experience with those in our lives.
Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Claims
I needed restraint when purchasing products from the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection. With the exception of the liquid lipsticks, everything in the collection looked and sounded appealing. Please keep reading for Sephora’s product claims:
- Muerte Palette: The Muerte palette is all you need for a memorable elegant eye—a divine assortment of rich wines, deep blues, and compelling greens that mix and match exquisitely. Vivid jewel tones and rich velvety hues inspired by the depths of the twinkling night sky.
- Fortuna & Santos Gel Liners: Ultra-pigmented, stay-all-day gel liners that make it easy to create clean graphic lines or can be blended out like a cream shadow. The chic custom Melt jars will keep your creamy, ultra-pigmented gel liners just as creamy as the day you opened them.
- Illuminación Highlighter: A lustrous, skin-perfecting highlighter with 12-hour wear that reflects a warm, opalescent pink glow. This unique, revolutionary, hybrid formula enhances and illuminates skin—no filters needed. With a second-skin finish, the digital dust formula allows you to easily blend and build from a soft, dewy sheen to a striking glow without appearing powdery or intensifying the look of unwanted texture.
Product Packaging & Price
Without a doubt, the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection is one of the most exquisitely designed collections with unparalleled attention to detail. As previously mentioned, this collection is heavily inspired by Dia De Los Muertos. Vivid colors inspired by the holiday and Mexican culture are prominently featured. In particular, Sugar Skulls are the central design element seen throughout the collection.
Unique to this collection, Melt Cosmetics used Spanish language names for each product in the line. Also, the brand featured Spanish and English captions, as well as product descriptions on the brand’s website and social media.

The Muerte Palette is one of two 10-pan palettes that released within the Amor Eterno Collection. Translated as the ‘Death’ Palette, the palette features a dark, edgy Sugar Skull design inspired by the colors of the night sky.
The palette, itself, is made out of sturdy, weighted cardboard material. Inside the palette, there are 10 shadows in a mix of matte and metallic finishes. Each shadow is clearly labeled. Also, a small mirror comes inside the palette.

Papel Picado used during many Mexican holidays inspired the packaging design of the Amor Eterno Gel Liners. Papel Picado is a craft paper used to create banners or to decorate altars in Mexico.

Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection Swatches
Swatches are not a perfect indicator of quality. However, swatches provide clues as to how a product performs in terms of pigmentation and the ability to blend. As always, I swatched the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection on a bare arm with my finger.
Muerte Palette Swatches
The swatches of the Muerte Palette impressed me. Each shadow glided across my arm with ease. However, the shimmer and matte formulas felt stiff. I experienced little fallout and no patchiness.
In fact, the intense pigmentation from these shadows stained my bare arm. It took a lot of makeup remover and several rounds of scrubbing to fully remove the stains.

Fortuna & Santos Gel Liner Swatches
There is an obvious difference in texture between Fortuna and Santos. Fortuna, the opaque matte green feels thick and creamy texture. The liner shows full pigmentation with just one swipe. Also, this color dries down quickly.
In comparison, Santos feels much thinner. In fact, it that takes two swipes to reach full pigmentation.

Illuminación Highlighter
The opalescent pink highlighter, Illuminación works as an icy pink highlighter on most skin tones. However, on fair skin, this highlighter work best as a blush or blush topper. Unlike the deeply pigmented swatch photos shown online, the Illuminación highlighter swatches showed much lighter on my arm.
Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection Application & Wear-Time
Muerte Palette
The artfully curated Muerte Palette performs like a dream. The matte shadows look extremely pigmented. As a result, they take time to blend evenly on the eyes. However, the matte shadows layer on each other and work well with each other, as well as with the shimmers in the palette.
From an application standpoint, I recommend using a fluffy blending brush to buff a light wash of color in the crease. For detailed blending, a stiffer brush is better for precise blending. That being said, beginners are likely to experience trouble blending these colors. Moreover, beginners may need to bring in additional shadows to buff out any colors placed in the crease.
The shimmer shadows applied less pigmented than they did when swatching. This is fairly consistent with most of the brand’s shimmer shadows. However, the Muerte shimmer formula feels much stiffer than the shimmer formula used in the Blueprint stack or the Smoke Sessions Palette. For the best application use your finger or wet your brush and pack the shadows onto the eyelids.
As some of you may know, I struggled with creasing when using the shimmer shadows in the Blueprint stack. In contrast, I experienced no fading, no creasing, and no fallout throughout the day with the Muerte Palette. Once applied, these shadows stayed in place all day. (Note: I always wear eyeshadow primer.)
Fortuna & Santos Gel Liners
Fortuna and Santos blew me away. IBoth liners stayed in place all day whether worn like a traditional liner or worn as a colorful base. The liners reached full opacity without skipping over the powder shadows underneath.
Illuminación Highlighter
As with all Melt Cosmetics Digital Dust Highlighters, the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Illuminación Highlighter takes building to create an impactful, blinding glow. However, as you work past the first layer of the product, the highlighter applies with greater ease.
For best application, apply with a fluffy highlighting brush. Despite being pink-toned, the color is still ‘wearable’ for the everyday makeup lover.

Final Thoughts on the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection
If it wasn’t apparent by my initial thoughts, I am in LOVE with the Melt Cosmetics Amor Eterno Collection. With the launch of the highly anticipated Amor Eterno Collection, founders Lora Arellano and Dana Bomar created one of the most well-executed and well-thought releases of the year. Not only is the packaging exquisitely designed, but the products inside perform perfectly.
Without a doubt, the Muerte Palette is the star product in the Amor Eterno Collection. More specifically, the matte shadows in the palette are the clear standouts. Meanwhile the highlighter provides a beautiful pink-toned glow, and the gel liners add a colorful accent to any look.
In conclusion, I wholeheartedly recommend this collection. However, if you are only able to grab one product, I recommend buying the Muerte Palette. Additionally, if the products are out of your price rage, wait until Melt, Sephora, or Beauty Bay run a sale on the gel liners or highlighter.

The palette and liners are so beautiful💕 I really want the Muerte palette . The looks I’ve seen online with the palette are beautiful.
As soon as the promo images from this palette started dropping on IG, I was hooked. The color story is so so stunning. ❤️
Love those colors so pretty!!
I thought this was such a cool color story for a palette and not one I’ve seen done before! ❤️
I’ve heard great things about melts Formula, and their palettes are pretty but none of them are really calling my name
Totally fair – I really enjoy the Melt Formula but they are pricey so it makes sense to wait until something (if anything) appeals to you!
Yea, I’ll get mine at Sephora though because if you buy it online, they have a tendency to break
I actually ordered all of mine but one directly from Melt and have never had any issues. ☺️ But I have seen some people say that some of the palettes had shades break (particularly Smoke Sessions & Blueprint since those have a very soft metallic formula)
Interesting, well I will just order from Sephora to be safe
Wow these look gorgeous! All of the colors are so vibrant! I’ve seen other posts/videos about the Muerte palette too, and it’s sooo pretty. Also, the Fortuna gel liner is, like, my favorite shade of green. I need to try Melt cosmetics at some point, their products look amazing!
I just discovered this year that they do an INSANE Black Friday Sale and I think they hold some other sales throughout the year so I’m sure if u wait, you could try their stuff for super cheap!
The eyeshadow palette is stunning; I love the range of colours in there, it’s perfect for this time of year x
Oh my, these sound so good, LP. I am really tempted. I also love the names! So creative.
They really smashed it out of the park with this release. Without a doubt this was one of the most well executed and well thought collections of the year! 💜
Wow, wow, wow! I am stunned by those swatches. I really love the deep color story & so fun that it’s themed around the Mexican holiday. I am a bit of an amateur so I may have a little trouble with the blending. 😛 I LOVE that it’s extremely pigmented though. So glad this formula didn’t crease like the Blueprint Stack & that they wore for so long without any issues!! This collection was so extremely thought out. Everything from the packaging to the quality of product is spot-on. You picked out the best items. Happy you love it all!! <3
Gosh I aspire to have such a beautiful aesthetic for my beauty blog! I love the way you write ❤️
