As a beauty blogger and makeup lover, I spend the majority of my time reading about, watching videos on, and playing with makeup. Simply put: I live for it.
However, this particular hobby can get quite expensive because buying new makeup is expensive. Although I wouldn’t consider myself a gullible shopper, beauty influencers play a big role in influencing what I buy. Please keep reading to see what *recent* products beauty gurus made me buy.
Cosmetics that a Beauty Guru Made Me Buy…
Charlotte Tilbury | Filmstar Bronze & Glow, Hollywood Contour Wand, Luxury Eyeshadow Quad
To be fair, I’ve been eyeing the Charlotte Tilbury brand for years before I finally bit the bullet and chose to invest in some of her products. That being said, it was Jessica Braun’s full brand review that made me even more eager to try this brand… so much so that I actually wanted to try nearly everything she talked about in her video. In the end, I picked up the Filmstar Bronze & Glow, the Hollywood Contour Wand, and the Luxury Eyeshadow Quad in The Dolce Vita.
ColourPop | BFF Mascaras, Zodiac Loose Pigments, and Good Sport Pressed Eyeshadow Palette
Out of all the beauty gurus that I’ve followed over the years, KathleenLights has probably had the most influence on my beauty purchases. This is likely because I trust her reviews AND I get a lot of inspiration from the makeup looks that she creates on her channel. It was her BFF Mascara Try-On and Zodiac Loose Pigment Swatch videos that inspired me to make these more recent purchases from ColourPop.
Also, I debated whether or not I should include the Good Sport eyeshadow palette on this list since I’ve been drooling over this palette since it was first released last Fall. However, hearing one of my favorite beauty gurus, Julia Mazzucato, talk about the Good Sport formula was enough to put me over the edge and make the purchase.
Huda Beauty | Smokey Obsessions Eyeshadow Palette
Y’all, I’ve gone back and forth on the Obsessions Palettes since Huda dropped the original set. However, I shied away from picking up any of the palettes because I didn’t like how the two of the Limited Edition Gemstone Palettes, Sapphire and Emerald, swatched in-store… but when I saw Stephanie Lange swatch the Smokey Palette in one of her videos, I immediately purchased it. At a high level, I love the Smokey Obsessions Palette.
Laura Mercier | Translucent Loose Setting Powder Glow
It is no secret that I love Melissa Alatorre, so it should come to no surprise that she influences so many of my beauty purchases. I had no clue that I even wanted the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Glow until I watched Melissa’s sponsored video where she demonstrated application… This is the only loose highlighter that I own and I love it. It provides a beautiful “glow from within” look to my skin.
Maybelline | Soda Pop Palette
When I saw Jackie Aina demo a look using the Soda Pop Palette, I knew that I needed to have it. I refrained from purchasing it for months, but when the opportunity presented itself to purchase this palette with a steep discount, I jumped!
Pinky Rose Cosmetics | Exotic Peacock Eyeshadow Palette
Here’s the thing: I watch a lot of Angelica Nyqvist and Julia Mazzucato, who are both color eyeshadow queens. Growing up, colorful eyeshadow, specially colorful blue eyeshadow, was an everyday staple. Sadly, as I got older and entered business school, I felt more of a need to conform to a preppier standard. No more.
Angelica Nyqvist speaks so highly of Pinky Rose Cosmetics and when I saw the gorgeous blue-purple theme of the Exotic Peacock Palette my heart raced. Although I have very few vibrant, blue matte shades, so I felt that this palette would fill a hole in my collection.
Thrive Causemetics | Brilliant Eye Brightener, Infinity Waterproof Eyebrow Liner, Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara
Once again, KathleeenLights influenced this purchase. Funnily enough, these Thrive Causemetics buys were actually products that she tried and didn’t love; however, I loved how these performed on her during her video. I grabbed the Brilliant Eye Brightener, the Infinity Waterproof Eyebrow Liner, and the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara.
Side note: Am I the only one who gets tempted to buy a product even after seeing an influencer speak negatively about it?
Viseart | Grande Pro Volume I Eyeshadow Palette
I love and trust, Stephanie Nicole. She loves and swears by the Viseart eyeshadow formula. When this limited edition palette came to Sephora at a discounted price AND was included in Sephora’s November promotion, I rewatched Stephanie Nicole’s Grande Pro Palette demo and review and purchased this palette.
Clothing, Accessories & Miscellaneous that a Beauty Guru Made Me Buy…
Luxie Beauty | Rose Gold Eyeshadow Brushes
Again, shout out to Melissa Alatorre for influencing this holiday purchase. After a few months of comparing Sigma and Luxie brushes, I decided to purchase some brushes from Luxie this holiday season. Why? Not only are they super cute, but I’ve heard Melissa say great things about these brushes. Plus, she has a discount code which helped me to save some money.
Gym Shark | Leggings, Tips, Sports Bras
I had never heard about Gym Shark before Melissa started featuring the brand in her videos and social posts. Knowing that she is super petite like I am, I knew I needed to try this brand. While I enjoy Lululemon leggings, Gym Shark’s leggings have a bit of an “edge” to them that I actually prefer. If I had infinite funds, I’d own probably all of the brand’s leggings.
House of Marley | Positive Vibration Wireless Headphones
Technically a beauty guru didn’t make me buy this… BUT a minimalist/eco-conscious YouTuber did influence this decision. Ironically, I purchased these after watching a video from Shelbizleee‘s where she spoke about talking herself out of buying these headphones! When my Beats headphones finally kicked the bucket, I opted to purchase the House of Marley Wireless headphones. Not only are these headphones significantly cheaper than my old Beats’ headphones, but they are more eco-friendly and much more comfortable.
Disclaimer: This is just meant to be a playful post. No one on this list forced me to buy anything, but these were all purchases that were in some way influenced by YouTuber.
