As a beauty blogger and lover, I’m constantly trying out new cosmetics, skincare and hair care products. Whether I’ve made a purchase myself, receive a gift, or a free sample, my collection has been expanding beyond my control. In an attempt to curb my waste and make use of what I own, I document my yearlong Project Panning updates
The below products are beauty items that I am happy to have finished over the past 3 months. Although the total number of products finished is not greater than the number of new items that entered my collection, I still view these finished products as a small victory. Please keep reading to see what I decluttered up this Summer!
Summer Declutter – Cosmetics
A definite theme emerged in my summer declutter: I don’t need to keep things I receive for free. Moreover, I shouldn’t swatch things that I KNOW I won’t really use. I could have sold or donated many of the below items had I not stupidly swatched them on my arm.
Also, I was super frustrated by how my makeup organization was looking so cluttered. I refuse to buy more storage. I’m at a point where I either need to use things up or get rid of things. I chose to begin the process of getting rid of things during my summer declutter.
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Gleam Glow Kit | $40.00 USD (CF)
Even though I can still vividly remember sitting in my college dorm room excitedly ordering the Anastasia Beverly Hills Gleam Glow Kit, I finally felt it was time to toss this bad boy out. Only two out of the four rose, cool-toned highlighters in this palette are light enough for my skin tone. Also, I don’t think I’ve used this palette once in the last two years.
ColourPop Cosmetics – Ultra Matte Liquid Lipstick (Extra Toppings & Viper) | $6.50 USD each (CF)
Honestly, I hate that I swatched these lipsticks because deep down, I knew that I wouldn’t wear them. Not only do I seldom reach for liquid lipsticks, but the sound of anything “ultra-matte” is terrifying for my lips that easily dry out. I received both of these lipsticks for free this past year due to mistakes or delays with my order. To my knowledge, both Viper and Extra Toppings have been discontinued. Hoping to pass these onto a friend.
ColourPop Cosmetics – Pressed Powder Bronzer (Opening Act) | $8.00 USD (CF)
I’m sad to say that the ColourPop Pressed Powder Bronzer in Opening Act was a total dud. Within a matter of five uses, the bronzer got a weird hardpan and lost all pigmentation…even after scraping off the top layer of the hardpan.
Glossier – Perfecting Skin Tint (G10) | $26.00 USD (CF)
To be fair, KathleenLights warned me in her all-brand review that the Glossier Skin Tint wasn’t going to be great. And me being me, I had to try this for myself anyway. Not only does this provide next to no coverage, but this feels heavy on my skin due to the oily consistency of the formula. The Perfecting Skin Tint was not made for oily, acne-prone skin …. or for anyone living in a humid climate. Read about some Glossier products I do love, here.
L.A. Girl – HD Pro Concealer – Peach Corrector | $3.99 USD (CF)
The L.A. Girl HD Pro Concealer Peach Corrector does its job at canceling out darkness underneath the eyes. However, I never reach for this because I don’t think to color correct. For this reason, I am decluttering it.
L’OREAL – Rouge Signature, Lasting Matte Liquid Lipstick (I Create) | $11.99 USD
Again, similar to the ColourPop Liquid Lipsticks, I received this L’Oreal Rouge Signature Lasting Matte Liquid Lipstick for free and swatched it. I don’t reach for liquid lipsticks enough to justify keeping this, especially given the sheer volume of nude lipsticks that I own. Hoping to pass this on to a friend.
Lime Crime – Metallic Velvatines Liquid Lipstick (Vibe) | $20.00 USD (CF)
Received this Lime Crime Metallic Liquid Lipstick in the shade Vibe at Beautycon LA 2018. Like the other liquid lippies on this list, I held onto it because I received it for free when I knew I’d never use it and swatched it and regret it. Again, passing this onto a friend.
NYX – Ultimate Edit Petite Eyeshadow Palette (Brights) | $6.99 USD (CF)
Ultimately, I’m decluttering the Ultimate Edit Petite Palette because I know I’ll never reach for this little palette over others in my collection. I wish I hadn’t swatched this palette.
Pixi – Mesmerizing Mineral Eyeshadow Duo (Orchid Ornament) | 0.00 USD (CF)
I received the Mesmerizing Mineral Eyeshadow Duo in Orchid Ornament while at Beautycon NYC. While I’m sure the shadows are fine, I’m not drawn to them and realistically I will not reach for them over others in my collection. My only regret is swatching these.
Revlon – Ultra HD Matte Lip Mousse (Death Valley) | $9.99 USD
Catching onto a theme with this season’s declutter? I need to stop keeping things, like the Revlon Ultra HD Matte Lip Mousse in Death Valley, when I know I won’t wear them… and moreover, I need to stop swatching them! I know my sister enjoys this formula, so I hope she’ll like this shade.
Supergoop! – Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 | $32.00 USD (CF)
I had such high hopes for the Unseen Sunscreen from Supergoop! but sadly this sunscreen broke me out. This sunscreen had a thick, silicone texture and wore more like a blurring primer than a sunscreen. However, as someone with acne-prone skin, this type of sunscreen was too heavy to wear on a daily basis.
Tarte – 12-Hour Amazonian Clay Blush – Paaarty | $5.00 USD (CF)
Sadly, my beloved Tarte Blush in the shade Paarty broke and shattered all over the floor so I had to declutter this from my collection.
The Balm – Hot Mama Blush | $19.13 USD (CF)
I couldn’t tell you the last time that I used The Balm’s Hot Mama Blush. While this was a beloved staple in my collection for many years, I can’t justify keeping something I don’t use… simply because I am emotionally attached to it. However, I will say that this is an awesome option for blush if you’re looking for a dupe to NARS’ Orgasm Blush.
The BrowGal – Double Ended Highlighter Pencil |$20.00 USD
I received the BrowGal Double Ended Highlighter Pencil at Beautycon NYC 2019. While the quality of the brow pencil is good, the color is deeper than my actual skin tone. Given that this doesn’t highlight my brow bone, I am decluttering this.
Summer Declutter – Skincare
It is rare for me to declutter skincare items, so I am not shocked that I only got rid of one item in the summer declutter roundup. Unless a skincare item makes me breakout or expires, I will use it up.
Supergoop! – Unseen Sunscreen Broad Spectrum SPF 40 | $32.00 USD (CF)
I’m sad to say that I hated the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen. Simply put, although this is lightweight, it feels too slippery and too much like a pore-filling primer than a sunscreen. As a result, this sunscreen actually broke me out pretty badly.
Summer Declutter – Haircare
Despite owing so much makeup, I don’t own a ton of hair products. Nevertheless, I needed to re-home some items I gathered during my summer declutter.
Love Beauty & Planet – Coconut Milk & White Jasmine Medium Hold and Volume Hairspray | $5.99 USD (CF)
Sadly, the Love Beauty & Planet Coconut Milk & White Jasmine Hairspray was a flop for me. While I appreciate that the sprayer is not an aerosol can, I the sprayer doesn’t work to release hairspray in an even and effective way.
sheaMoisture – Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Split End Balm (CF)
The sheaMoisture Manuka Honey and Yogurt Hydrate + Repair Split End Balm was a major disappointment because I was excited to be gifted this at Beautycon NYC. Sadly this Balm is much less balmy and too solid, hard, and difficult to smooth into my fine, thin hair.

Final Thoughts on my Summer Declutter & Summer Empties
Although I didn’t move out as many products as I did last season, in terms of volume or value, I’m happy with my progress. During my summer declutter I finished or decluttered 55 products at a value of $743.48 USD.
Note: I removed 2 products from my spreadsheet given that I don’t typically count perfume/body sprays or nail polish in my makeup collection.
To date, my collection is valued at $9.1K and 414 products. As always, I don’t share these numbers to brag. I share my these numbers to keep myself accountable. Also, keep in mind that this is the ~value~ of my collection, not the amount of money I’ve spent. Gifts, freebies, PR samples, and items purchased on sale are valued at their full retail value.
If you’ve been following along with my journey this year, you’ll notice that my collection size and value skyrocketed this quarter. Even after the summer declutter, my collection increased ~14% in size and 30% in value.
I spent too much money during the Fourth of July sales and Labor Day Sales that happened during the Summer season. My heavy shopping was a direct response to the intense anxiety I was experiencing. I’m ~trying~ to develop better coping mechanisms for dealing with low periods.
Have you tried any of these products before? What products did you use up this Summer? Please let me know in the comments below.
