Massive 2018 Beauty Declutter | 50+ Products Gone! January 17, 2019
After a year of buying and trying many new beauty products, it was time to reevaluate what I owned. Recently, I meticulously combed through my entire beauty collection. Keep reading my massive 2018 beauty declutter to see what products I purged from my collection.
A Little Bit About My Massive 2018 Beauty Declutter Mindset
Whenever possible, I try to donate or rehome makeup that I no longer want. However, I did not approach this year-end declutter with the same mindset. Instead, this declutter was almost entirely focused on letting go of products that are too old to keep using.
In many cases, certain products had expired so badly that they developed a chemical smell. Keep reading to see what products didn’t survive my massive 2018 beauty declutter.

Final Thoughts on my Massive 2018 Beauty Declutter
Although I hate throwing out products, decluttering is a necessity when you own a large collection. Unlike clothing, makeup, skincare, and haircare go bad. Therefore, it is almost impossible to own this much makeup and go through it all.
Ultimately, my goal is to eventually use more of what I own and purchase less.

I literally just went through all my makeup yesterday and got rid of tons of stuff! Mostly mascara
I always feel so much lighter after I’ve decluttered!!
Yes! I feel so much better!
I need to do this. I’m a makeup hoarder, and I only use the same 8 products. Great post!
Thank you so much! 💜 I wish these things weren’t going to waste, but I can’t change the past – I can only make better shopping decisions moving forward!
Decluttering really is the best though (especially when whatever you’re getting rid of can be donated or repurposed)!
Thanks again! I will definitely have to look through my piles of makeup and see what can be given away rather than thrown away. Have a good rest of your week! 😊
ahhh I really need to do this!! I hoard so much shit, especially skincare as I feel like I have to keep everything, even skincare that didn’t work for me in case one day I might need it or one day it might work for me, which is so stupid haha!
That’s how I was for the longest time, but the last couple of years I really have been trying to change that mindset! Honestly sometimes I’ll put on cleaning-related shows, like Hoarders (or more recently, “Tidying Up with Mario Kondo”) to help motivate me to get rid of things!!
Omgoodness, good job! Getting rid of makeup is so hard for me!! I need to do another declutter though.
Thank you so much!! I really tried to be brutal this year since I purchased way to many items in the latter half of 2018. In some ways I was lucky that some of these items had expired because it made the process easier for me to let go of things!
Ah, shoot. I really need to go through my things now. It’s hard for me to part with lipsticks though. I did get rid of my Bane lipstick by Melt. I opened it one day and it was completely melted to the tube – and even that was hard to do! I’ve been lucky to be close to finishing Diva and Ravishing lipsticks from MAC. And who knows what’s in my makeup case… I’m a bit terrified to declutter. It’s very impressive you’ve been able to clear so much out!
For me the hardest category is eyeshadow! 🙈🙈🙈 I buy too much and want to keep it all! But there are certain products that just hold such sentimental value that I can’t imagine finishing them, but I’m impressed that your close to finishing some lipsticks! Eyeshadow, lipstick, and blush/bronzer are truly the hardest things to finish!!
I’m the same way with eyeshadow! I feel so guilty throwing away things I haven’t hit pan on or even remotely used. No point in holding onto something that isn’t working/is getting old though.
This is a great decluttering, LP! I hope you do feel lighter and enjoy that feeling! (I so need to do this!)
Thanks Jennifer! 💜 It was such a relief!!
You were so good getting rid of all that! I need to be ruthless and go through mine. I tend to hang on to old makeup, just in case. silly really as it does have a shelf-life! You’ve inspired me to sort mine out. x

Thank you so much, Samantha! 💜 Decluttering Makeup is the hardest thing for me – but there is no use in keeping things that have gone off or that didn’t work for me!
Good luck in going through your collection!
Wow that’s quite a bit of products, I’ve never even heard of most of them but I read it like I had lol. I never caught on to make up for some reason. Lol I’m weird 🙈
lol! I think I’m too into makeup (clearly) – need to get my spending habits in check this year. Thank you for reading and leaving a comment. 💜
Ooh I love a good declutter! I did this with my collection too, made me realise I need to stop buying make up ! 🙈 I would love to hear your thoughts on the hourglass ambient palette I’ve been debating getting it for ages! Xx
Thanks for your comment, Laura! 💜 and Lol I took of pic of all things I’ve bought that I still in the process of trying or reviewing …. and I seriously need to cut back!
And I liked the Ambient Powder, but I found that I wasn’t reaching for the blush or bronzer shades. The Ambient Lighting Powder provides the sheerest amount of glow for a lit from within/radiant look. However, in retrospect, I wish I had just bought a mini single of Dim Light or Diffused Light rather than the whole palette.
thank you for sharing👌🏻💕
Love seeing declutters helps you see what people have actually ended up using thanks x
Thank you for your comment! <3 I love seeing declutters and empties, too! 🙂
I’m about to start a project pan on my blog to try to get through some of the products I own. Thought it might give me the motivation to stick to them 😂
Ohhh yess! I try to do monthly makeup baskets for project panning! 🙂 It is definitely helpful for getting use out of what you own. Can’t wait to see how you get on with your project!
Thank you x
I hate throwing things away but sometimes you just have to! I have one lip liner that I’m holding onto and hoping that I will like it. I keep trying it every now and then. But, sadly, I have a feeling it’ll go into the bin.

It really took me a while to get to the point where I could comfortably part with things, especially makeup! Thank you for your comment! 💜
I did this earlier this year. I was surprised at how much I had and how much had actually gone bad! Some makeup I kept for almost 10 years thinking makeup doesn’t expire…oh yes it does!
Glad that I am not alone in doing clear outs like this! So many people aren’t aware that makeup goes bad!!!
I love this!! I feel so much better after decluttering!! Please check my blog out if you get the chance, I’m new to blogging ❤️
