This September, I’ve been making an effort to simplify my life by taking part in the Busy Boycott Challenge created by Be More With Less. I’m tired of spending all my time and energy doing things that don’t add value to my life. I’m tired of spending my days doing things that do not bring me joy.
My hope with this challenge is to learn how to better prioritize my life so that I have time to do the things that make me happy.

The Busy Boycott challenges participants to buck the norm by reevaluating why they’re so busy and whether that busyness is truly necessary. The first week’s challenge forced me to evaluate how I let my busy schedule dictate my conversations with others. During this week’s challenge by banning the word “busy” from my vocabulary.
The Busy Boycott: Week 2, Challenge 2 Recap
Although paying attention to my words was difficult, last week’s challenge proved to be even harder because it required me to indefinitely cross items off my to-do list. This was challenging because last week I worked more than twelve hours every single day…. so crossing off an item from my work to-do list wasn’t really an option.
Ultimately, I decided to give up working out and meal prepping. While these are two aspects of my life that are important to me, ultimately, I found it better for myself to just focus on getting as much sleep as possible in my downtime. (Although my sleep was still pitiful.) To some degree, it was freeing to not have to worry about grocery shopping or meal prepping for each day’s lunch. However, these are not items that I am willing to give up on indefinitely.
As a whole, I’m still struggling to realize what last week’s challenge actually taught me because I don’t ever want to just give up on things that I would like to make a priority. Please let me know your thoughts – I’m super curious to know your opinions on this.
The Busy Boycott: Week 3, Challenge 3
This week’s challenge is to slow down and enjoy. In other words, Courtney (Be More With Less) is recommending that we find something to linger over – whether that be meeting a friend for lunch or taking time to pursue a passion project. Out of all the challenges proposed so far, being tasked with lingering is the most exciting because it speaks directly to doing the things that make us happy.
My initial thoughts when reading this week’s challenge: I want to paint, to journal, to blog more, to cook a zesty meal, to sleep more. Then, I thought, how am I going to do this?? Unfortunately, a very bad case of the Mondays came over me yesterday, so this challenge turned out to be a little bit of a bust. Thankfully, I have six more days to try to live up to the challenge.
I am going to try to sneak in more “me time” by being more productive at work. The hope is that if I am more productive and quicker with work during the day, then I can reclaim some of my evening time. Prior to yesterday’s horrid events, I was on track to do so, but I got derailed midway through the day and then my evening was derailed further due to an unexpected stressful situation.
