What is a Super Shock Shadow?
Super Shock Shadows are ColourPop’s famous creme-to-powder eyeshadow formula. These potted Super Shock Shadows are well-loved and well-known for their unique, bouncy texture that delivers bold color in a single swipe. Moreover, the Super Shock Shadows promise to last on the eyes without creasing, fading, or producing fallout.
Additionally, Super Shock Shadows come in four finishes: matte, satin, ultra glitter, and ultra metallic.
How do you use a Super Shock Shadow?
The ColourPop Super Shock Shadows can be used in a variety of ways depending on the desired effect and the finish of the shadow. As someone who is a fan of the satin, glitter, and metallic finishes, my preferred way to use the Super Shock Shadows is to use them as an inner corner highlight, an all-over lid shade or as a sheer eyeshadow topper.
Using your fingers is the best way to apply a Super Shock Shadow. Not only does this provide you with the best color payoff, but it reduces the chance of creating any mess. However, if you hate to apply eyeshadow with your fingers, flat brushes can be used to pack the satin, glitter, or metallic Super Shock Shadows onto the eyelids.
Although it may seem odd, a matte Super Shock Shadow can be used similarly. More specifically, finger application provides the best color payoff even though the shadows are matte. However, it is possible to pack, blend, and diffuse a matte Super Shock Shadow on the lids using a dense packing brush.

How long do Super Shock Shadows last?
When worn over an eyeshadow primer, Super Shock Shadows last for more than 12 hours on my oily lids. Even if I’ve applied a glitter Super Shock Shadow in my crease, I experience no creasing, fading, transfer, or fallout when wearing my Super Shock Shadows.
Although ColourPop Super Shock Shadows receive a bad reputation for going bad quickly (i.e. drying out), I experience no issues with the shelf life of my Super Shock Shadows. In fact, according to the ColourPop website, Super Shock Shadows last up to three years if left unopened. However, once Super Shock Shadow is opened, the shadows only last up to one year if they are properly stored and sealed after each use.
Despite owning so many Super Shock Shadows, I’ve never had any issues with my shadows prematurely drying out. At this point, I’ve owned most of the below shadows for over a year and have not had any issues with any shade drying out.

How much do Super Shock Shadows Cost?
Super Shock Shadows regularly retail for $6.00 individually. However, there are three ways to save money when purchasing a Super Shock Shadow:
- Use a Discount Code | Many beauty influencers have 10% off discount codes that can save you money. Using one of these codes would bring the Super Shock Shadow price to $5.40.
- Wait for a Sale | ColourPop regularly offers 25% off sales on its website. If you wait for one of these sales, a Super Shock Shadow will only cost $4.50.
- Buy a Bundle | Taking into account the short lifespan of a Super Shock Shadow, a bundle may ~not~ be the best option. However, buying a Super Shock bundle typically brings down the cost per shadow.

Within the ColourPop Best of Super Shock Shadow Collection bundle, my favorite shades are Frog, Amaze, Ritz, Sequin, and Party of Five. These shades work perfectly as an all-over-the lid shade or as an inner corner highlight.

Super Shock Shadow Vault Swatches
Within the first set of Vault Swatches, my favorite shades are Moon, Swoon, and Millennium.
Within the second set of Super Shock Vault Swatches, my favorite shades are Voila and Sleep Tight.
Within the last set of Super shock Shadow swatchs, In Axis, Dreamlover, Shook Up, and Nocturnal are my favorite shades.
In reviewing my ColourPop Super Shock Shadow collection swatches, I realized that I unintentionally purchased duplicates of the same colors. Beyond the literal duplicates, I realized just how often ColourPop recycles nearly identical shades with different names. For example, Very Berry, Roy G. Biv, and Nocturnal look nearly identical.
Moving forward, I will need to be way more critical when considering expanding my ColourPop Super Shock Shadow collection.

Final Thoughts on my Epic Super Shock Shadow Collection
I love my Super Shock Shadows collection. These shadows have such a unique formula with a high shine finish that adds a little bit of ~OOMF~ to any eyeshadow look. Also, Super Shock Shadows are so perfect for one-shadow looks on the days I’m in a rush or want a more low-key look.
As someone with a huge makeup collection, I like that I have more of a chance of finishing these little Super Shock Shadow pots than traditional powder shadows. I even panned my first ColourPop Super Shock Shadow this year – follow along with my 2020 Project Pan journey
Given the price point, variety of finishes, and versatility on the eyes, I highly recommend that everyone try at least one Super Shock Shadow.
