ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches and Demo

ColourPop Palettes are like chips – you can’t have just one.

I stopped in my tracks when I saw the promotional images for the ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette. After watching the brand’s Spring Swatch Party, I purchased Sweet Talk Palette. But does it live up to the hype?

Please keep reading for an in-depth review of the ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette. This review includes swatches and demo looks created with this affordable, coral palette.

ColourPop Brand Ethos

ColourPop’s motto is: Beauty that doesn’t break the bank. The brand, founded by Seed Beauty in 2004, is all about manufacturing and selling, high quality, affordable, cruelty-free beauty produced right in Los Angeles.

Over the years, the brand has won countless beauty awards for their products from Allure, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, Influenster, OK! Magazine, People en Espanol, Teen Vogue, and Temptalia.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Claims

The ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette was created to brighten up your day. This is the first ColourPop Palette to feature four different eyeshadow finishes: pressed matte, pressed metallic, pressed glitter, and super shock. According to ColourPop, these shadows are highly pigmented, ultra-velvety and long-wearing. The brand claims that these powders will adhere easily to the eye.

This 12-pan eye shadow palette includes seven matte shadows, two metallic shadows, two pressed glitters, and one super shock shadow.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Price & Packaging

The Sweet Talk Palette retails for $18.00 USD. The price point is wallet-friendly for anyone on a budget.

The Sweet Talk Palette comes in the brand’s traditional cardboard packaging.  Without a doubt, this palette is the most visually interesting and flirty. The pinky, coral floral design screams Springtime vibes. The black and white newspaper typology adds a harder edge to the design. The inside of palette is a continuation of the mix of hard and soft.

The ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette does not come with a mirror, but each shade is clearly labeled. The palette is lightweight, but sturdy, and is easy to store.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Ingredients & CF Status

ColourPop is Cruelty-Free, so this palette was not tested on animals. This palette contains Talc and Mica, as well as the Red 40 dye. Red 40 can cause allergic reactions or staining for some individuals.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Swatches

Seeing the textures in various ColourPop’s Sweet Talk Palette swatches is what sold me on this palette. I was happy to find that the shadows in the Sweet Talk palette swatched just as easily on my arm as they did in the videos I watched.

As always, swatches are not a perfect indicator of quality. Some shadows swatch beautifully on the arm, but perform poorly on the eyelid. However, swatches can give a good indication of pigmentation and ability to blend. The below swatches were done with my finger on a bare arm without primer.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette Finger Swatches

Row 1: Catch Me (matte pastel peach), Side2Side (warm champagne Super Shock Shadow with silver and pink glitter), Garden Date (metallic coral with a gold sheen), Work It (soft matte yellow orange)

Row 2: Prima Drama (pale rose gold glitter with a copper and gold duochrome shift), Meadow (matte true coral), Early Mornin’ (marigold glitter), Dream Maker (matte soft coral)

Row 3: ICYMI (matte dirty terracotta), Melody (metallic rose with a gold flip), West Side (matte camel), Feel Free (rich matte bordeaux)

I was impressed by how each shadow swatched.  I loved looking at the textures next to each other on my arm. The juxtaposition of the mattes, metallics, glitters, and Super Shock shadows is visually interesting. The matte shades felt creamy and blended with ease. The glitters and metallic shades glided onto my arm.

I love the ColourPop Super Shock Shadow formula so I was curious to see how Side2Side would perform. Compared to the traditional formula, Side2Side felt slimy. Also, the shadow functions more like an eye topper as opposed to standalone shadow.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Application & Wear-time

Everyone may have been hyped about the super shock shadow and the two pressed glitters, but I’m going to be blunt: the matte shadows are the star of the show. The matte shadows are creamy and easy to blend on the eye. They work well with one another and with the other shadows. Eventhough the color story of this palette is cohesive, this isn’t a “one look” palette. The dark matte shadows add depth, while the camel-toned shades create beautiful neutral looks.

The metallic shadows are pigmented, regardless of whether they are applied wet or dry. I like to apply them with a flat shader brush for the greatest color intensity. These shadows do not crumble or produce a ton of fallout.

Demo Look #1:  Smokey, Metallic Coral Eye | To create the below look, I set my eyelid with my Milani Eyeshadow Primer. Then, I blended the matte shades, Catch Me, Work It and Dream Maker into the crease. From there, I packed Meadow and ICYMI into the outer-V of my upper lid. To deepen the look, I stamped the shade Feel Free onto the outer-V.

Once I applied all of my mattes, I packed Garden Date onto the center of my eyelid using a flat brush. Then, I packed Melody onto the inner half of my lid. From there, I dipped my fluffy brush back into Catch Me andsoftened the harsh edges. Finally, I tapped Side2Side in the inner corners of my eyes.

This palette is interesting in that it leans very orange, despite being a coral-themed.  In person, the colors look more coral.

All sweet talk aside, the glitters and super shock shadow were underwhelming. Although Prima Donna and Early Mornin’ swatch well, the glitters are not as pigmented on the eye. Also, the glitters produce a ton of fallout. I ~hate~ Side2Side because this is a poor representation of the Super Shock Shadow Formula. As previously mentioned, this shadow feels slimy and lacks the same pigmentation as the brand’s traditional Super Shock Shadows.

From a wear-time perspective, both the mattes and metallics last all day on the eye without fading or creasing.

Final Thoughts on the ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette

Even though I wasn’t wowed by the pressed glitters or the Super Shock Shadow, I was impressed by the quality and vibrancy of the mattes and metallics in the ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette. Given the quality, ease of use, and affordable price point, I recommend this palette to skilled artists and makeup newbies.

  1. The colours in this palette look gorgeoussssss omg! Those glitters look amazing in the pan, its such a shame they didn’t perform that well, and fall out is my all time eyeshadow pet peeve so thats really annoying! Great review as always!!! xx

    1. Thank you, girl! <3 Even though the glitters were duds, I still loved the palette overall! Hard to believe that such affordable shadows perform so perfectly (better than high end that I've tried)!!!

  2. I’ve been seeing the ColourPop Sweet Talk line and even when I went into Ulta for some goodies and I was soo tempted to get it. The colors are really lovely and are something I feel like I could wear all the time. Thanks for sharing and great review girl! <3

    1. Thank you for commenting!! This is SUCH a pretty line and they really did a great job of capturing the essence of Spring. I think this is a palette that both lovers of color and neutral eyeshadow can enjoy. <3

      1. Ahhh that is such a hard question because I own so many lol! But so far, this one is my favorite just because of how effortlessly pretty I feel whenever I create a look with this palette. Do you have a favorite CP palette? 🙂

      2. I don’t own the Dream St. Palette but honestly wish that I did because I love Kathleen + the color story of the palette. I purchased the Through My Eyes palette collab with ILuvSarahii which has a similar color story … but I wish I had gotten Dream St. instead to be honest.

Also, CP is having a 30% off sale this weekend on many of their products! 💜

  3. I love reading your reviews. They are so well-written & extremely informative. Thank you for always sharing your honest opinion! I know how much you love the Super Shock formula so it was disappointing to read the one in this palette just wasn’t the same.

The look you created is gorgeous! ♡
