A Beauty Guru Made Me Buy It

A Beauty Guru Made Me Buy It | YouTube Made Me Buy It | Big Beauty Haul

As a beauty blogger and makeup lover, I spend the majority of my time reading about, watching videos on, and playing with makeup. I live for it. As a result, sometimes when I overspend it feels like a beauty guru made me buy it. Keep reading today’s post for a roundup of products that an influencer convinced me to buy.

Cosmetics

When I spend too much money on a product after watching a review, it is easy to feel like “a beauty guru made me buy it”. However, I am ultimately the person who controls my own purchases.

Unfortunately for me, beauty products lend themselves well to influencer marketing, since viewers can see how products are being used.

Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Contour Wand, The Dolce Vita Quad, Filmstar Bronze & Glow

Charlotte Tilbury

I’ve wanted to try Charlotte Tilbury products for years, but the price point always made me pause. However,  Jessica Braun’s brand review that made me more eager to try the brand. In fact, l literally wanted to try everything Jessica talked about in her video.

In the end, I picked up the Filmstar Bronze & Glow,* the Hollywood Contour Wand, *and the Luxury Eyeshadow Quad in The Dolce Vita (now discontinued).

ColourPop

BFF Mascaras, Zodiac Loose Pigments, and Good Sport Pressed Eyeshadow Palette

No other influencer has influenced as many of my beauty purchases than KathleenLights (except for maybe Tati or iluvsarahii). Obviously I trust her reviews. Moreover, the looks she creates inspires me to be more creative.

Her BFF Mascara Try-On videos and Zodiac Loose Pigment Swatch videos inspired me to purchase products* from these two colorful ColourPop releases.

Huda Beauty Smokey Obsessions 9-Pan Eyeshadow Palette

Huda Beauty

When Huda originally launched her 9-pan obsessions palettes* I debated whether I should purchase one of the palettes in the range. However, I kept shying away from trying the brand.

However, my resolve to own one of the Obsessions Palettes changed when I saw Stephanie Lange swatch the Smokey Palette. In fact, I purchased the Smokey Palette immediately after watching her video. And I’m so glad – read my detailed review of the Smokey Obsessions palette.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Glow

Laura Mercier

It is no secret that I love Melissa Alatorre‘s content. Therefore, it shouldn’t be surprising that she influences many of my beauty purchases.

I had no clue that I even wanted the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder in Glow until I watched Melissa’s sponsored video. Overall, I’m so impressed by the ‘lit from within glow’ that this loose powder provides. Also, it works on oily skin!

Maybelline Lemonade Craze Eyeshadow Palette

Maybelline

Jackie Aina is one of the original YouTubers who influenced my love of makeup. When I saw Jackie Aina demo a look using the Soda Pop Palette, I knew that I needed it. Therefore, I jumped at the opportunity to buy this palette during a steep promotion period.

[Edit – 6/2020: after letting this palette sit in my collection for months, I decluttered it.]

Eye Bundle: Brilliant Eye Brightner, Mascara, Brow Liner

Thrive Causemetics

Once again, KathleeenLights influenced this purchase. Funnily enough, she didn’t love the Thrive Causemetics products that I purchased. However, I liked how these performed and the way she described them.

I grabbed the Brilliant Eye Brightener, the Infinity Waterproof Eyebrow Liner, and the Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara.

Viseart Grand Pro Volume 1 – Close Up

Viseart

When this limited edition palette came to Sephora at a discounted price, I felt such an urge to try this palette. Ultimately, Stephanie Nicole’s demo. pushed me over the edge to buy this palette. Read my full review on the Viseart Grande Pro Volume 1 Palette.

In hindsight, had the 12-pan neutral palette been available during the sale, I would have purchase that instead. I regret purchasing this product and eventually decluttered it.

Clothing & Accessories

Luxe Rose Gold Eyeshadow Brushes

Luxie Beauty

Shout out to Melissa Alatorre for influencing this holiday purchase. After a few months of comparing Sigma* and Luxie brushes,* I purchased brushes from Luxie. Moreover, the brushes are so cute and high quality.

Camo Seamless Leggings & Bra, Lounge Leggings & Cropped Sweatshirt, House of Marley Headphones

Gym Shark

Before Melissa featured the Gym Shark in her workout or lifestyle related videos and social posts, I never heard about this brand. However, I am beyond thrilled to discover the brand. In fact, they’ve become one of my favorite makers of athleisure.

House of Marley

Technically a beauty guru didn’t make me buy these headphones. A  minimalist, eco-conscious YouTuber influenced me. Ironically, I purchased these headphones after watching a video from Shelbizleee‘s where she spoke about talking herself out of buying these headphones!

When my Beats headphones finally kicked died, I purchased the House of Marley Wireless headphones. These headphones significantly cheaper than my Beats’ headphones. Also, the brand is more eco-friendly.

Edit: In this case, I regret that a beauty guru made me buy it. These headphones only lasted a few months before the bluetooth featured stopped working.

So Did a Beauty Guru Made Me Buy It?

Ultimately, this post was meant to be playful and not a true statement that I believe that ‘a beauty guru [REALLY] made me buy it. While there are influencers who peddle anything they can, the YouTubers mention in this roundup are not like this.

At the end of the day, no one can blame anyone else for their purchase habits. For makeup lovers who may have an addictive purchasing tendency,  it is our responsibility to hold ourselves accountable for our own decisions.
