Although hauls make me highly uncomfortable, I wanted to share the items that I purchased at Beauty Con. All-in-all, I am extremely proud of myself because of my restraint in shopping during the event. I am still on a minimalism journey, but I decided to treat myself to a few items at the convention.
If you’re interested in seeing what I purchased, then please keep reading:
Anastasia Beverly Hills – Norvina Eyeshadow Palette
Price: $46.00 USD (at Beauty Con) / $42.00 USD online regularly
Since I already have a dedicated post for the new Norvina palette, I’ll be brief. The color scheme of this palette is breathtaking and it makes wearing purple hues easy. Prior to going to the convention, I knew that I would purchase this palette if ABH were to sell an early release.
Makeup Eraser – Flamingo Make Up Eraser
Price: $10.00 USD (at Beauty Con) / $20.00 USD online regularly
I purchased the Makeup Eraser out of necessity because I recently ran out of my makeup remover cotton rounds from CVS. I knew that I wanted to stop purchasing disposable makeup removers the past couple of weeks, but I was unsure whether I wanted to try the Makeup Eraser or reusable cotton rounds.
In the end, after seeing a live demo of the Makeup Eraser, I decided to take the plunge and buy this product. I have yet to use it since it has to be washed before the first use, but I am excited to try this. If it works, this will be good for up to 1000 washes (so it should last me 3-5 years).
Uncharacteristically of me, I purchased the Makeup Eraser in a Flamingo pattern. Although the pattern is quite fun, I am feeling a little remorse because the light blue or teal colors would have been better for me. However, given that I got this item for half-off without even realizing, I won’t complain.
Kylie Cosmetics – Creme Lipstick in Madeleine & Lip Liner in Dolce K
Creme Lipstick Price: $17.00 USD
Lip Liner Price: $12.00 USD
Without a doubt, Kylie Cosmetics had the longest line at Beauty Con. That alone would be impressive enough, but given that the Kylie truck wasn’t offering any sales or hosting any influencers the feat is even more notable. The only “discount” was that individuals obviously did not have to pay for shipping costs. Additionally, everyone received a free keychain with purchase.
Even though this was my first stop on the second day of Beauty Con, I still waited in line for close to 45 minutes. At points over the weekend, the Kylie Cosmetics line wrapped around one whole side of the L.A. Convention center…
Given that Kylie’s lip products are what put her on the map, and given my affinity for creme products, I decided to buy a lip liner and lipstick. When made this purchase on Sunday, I did not have any nude lip liners in my collection so I bought the Dolce K lip liner (which is a deep beige nude). For lipstick, I purchased a creme lipstick in the color Madeleine (a rosy strawberry).
The swatches of the Kyle lip products left stains on my hands nearly the entire day, despite intense rubbing with the makeup remover and exfoliating cotton pads provided at the event. If the lip products have the same staying power on my lips then I will be thoroughly impressed.
Evalectric – Classic Hair Straightener in Ocean Blue
Price: $125.00 USD (at Beauty Con) / $250.00 USD online regularly
I didn’t go into Beauty Con thinking I would buy hair tools. I considered trying to find extensions, but somehow got suckered into getting my hair done on both days of Beauty Con. Someone at DNA Hair Tools did my hair with a brand new heated hair brush on Saturday and then another woman at Evalectric did my hair on Sunday with a ceramic hair straightener.
If I’m being honest, I felt a little pressured to make the purchase at Evalectric, BUT I was impressed with how quickly the straightener was used to curl my hair. Yes – you read that correctly. 🙂 I asked the woman at the exhibit to curl my hair with this product. I was impressed with how my hair and my friend’s hair came out that day. There was a visible difference in the softness and shininess of the hair. However, my hair lacked the volume that the DNA Hair Tools straightener provided. I wish I could have better compared the two products side by side, but I may still end up buying a heated hairbrush in the future.
Overall, Evalectric hair straighteners promise to reduce frizz and add shine to your hair while being curled or straightened. The hair straighteners use ceramic plates, which cause less damage to your hair compared to ceramic coated plates or metal plated straighteners. Also, these straighteners use negative ion technology which is why the product works to quickly reduce frizz and straighten (or curl) hair because negative ions help to seal the hair cuticles.
While in California, I did a little bit of exploring at Venice Beach.
At Venice Beach, I visited the TOMS store where I purchased a pair of Black Leather Jutti Mules. Please know that this purchase was not made on a whim. I have been looking (unsuccessfully) for a pair of slide-on flats like these for the past two years. Prior to trying on the TOMS’ mules, every backless flat I tried on was either too big or oddly shaped when compared to my foot.
Have you tried any of these products before? Please let me know in the comments below.
