This year, I accumulated an insane amount of haircare due to generous gifts from family and friends, and my Sephora Play subscription days. This year, I am making an effort to work through or donate more of my hair care collection.
As of June 30th, I’ve finished 17 products. However, since I’ve already discussed some of these products in a previous post, I am only going to review the “new” items here.
Keep reading for mini review of my Mid-Year Hair Care Empties.
Mid-Year Hair Care Empties
LUSH – Retread Conditioner | Cost: $32.95
I’ve purchased the Retread Conditioner from LUSH twice now and I don’t think I would purchase this product again. While I love LUSH as a brand, this product was subpar to me. I found it too heavy to use as a daily conditioner, but not quite good enough to use as a mask. That being said, this product did not irritate my incredibly sensitive scalp.
I would recommend this for men and women with dry, thick, coarse hair who may enjoy using this conditioner multiple times a week. Individuals with thinner hair may not like this product. Overall, I found this product to be too expensive for the way it performed.
The RenPure Co-Wash was a surprise hit. I purchased this product close to two years ago at T.J. Maxx because I wanted to try more natural hair care products and had success with a natural shampoo that I had purchased at the TJX Companies previously.
To be frank, I did not pay attention to the fact that this is considered a “co-wash” product, so I used this as a conditioner. If I had paid better attention to the label, I might not have purchased the product because co-wash products are typically to thick for my fine hair.
However, I used the RenPure Cleansing Conditioner as a traditional conditioner and I loved it. The cleansing conditioner was moisturizing but did not weigh my hair down. Additionally, this conditioner lasted me over a year. This particular product is not sold on the RenPure website any longer, but I would purchase other conditioners from this brand. In addition to selling at Marshalls and T.J. Maxx, this line is now sold at CVS.
The best thing about the Moroccanoil Treatment Mini is undoubtedly the smell. This product worked well to add shine and tame frizz to my hair after blowdrying, but given the price, I am not planning to purchase in the immediate future.

Peter Thomas Roth – Mega Rich Shampoo & Conditioner
I discovered the Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Shampoo & Conditioner during a weekend getaway. These cleaned my hair, but I don’t remember much about the products aside from the fragrance of the products. I am unlikely to repurchase, but I did enjoy using the travel sized bottles that I received.
Verb – Leave-In Mist | Cost: $8.00 USD
Like the RenPure Co-Wash, the Verb Leave-In Mist was another surprise hit. I received this in a Sephora Play subscription box several years ago, so I likely would not have purchased this on my own. I found this product to be effective at detangling my hair, without making my hair look limp. Since this product is thick in consistency, I had the best luck spraying the conditioner onto my hands and working it into my wet hair after showering.
BB Don’t Blow It is a product that I received when I had a Sephora Play Subscription, so I have not purchased this styling cream outright. That being said, I was pleasantly surprised with this product because of the way it helped to surprise frizz without making my hair look greasy or flat.
Given that BB Don’t Blow It is made for fine hair, I would continue purchasing this in the future. However, given the climate where I live, I tend to blow dry my hair during the cold weather months, so I am unlikely to purchase again until 2019 when my haircare collection is pared down enough to justify another purchase.
Living Proof – Perfect Hair Day Over Night Styling Protector | Cost: $29.00
I enjoyed the fresh smell of the Living Proof Ph.D. Over Night Styling Protector. This is another product that I received through Sephora Play and likely would have never purchased on my own. The Ph.D. Over Night Styling Protector made my hair shinier and more manageable after blowdrying. I would consider purchasing this product again in place of hair oil.
