Did anybody ask for me to review the Fenty Beauty Deep Neutrals Snap Shadows Palette? No. But here I am anyway.
Although Fenty Beauty consistently nails complexion and lip releases, the brand’s previous Galaxy and Moroccan Spice eyeshadow palettes flopped. Nevertheless, makeup lovers lost their minds when the 6-pan Snap Shadows launched at the end of 2019. But were these ultra-hyped, 6-pan mini palettes any good? Keep reading to find out.

A Little About the Brand
Truly, what can I say about Fenty Beauty that hasn’t been said before?
In 2017, Music and fashion power-house, Robyn Rihanna Fenty launched Fenty Beauty with an outstanding 40 foundation shades in the line’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Foundation. With inclusivity at the core of the brand’s DNA, Fenty continuously creates products that work for a wide variety of skin-tones. Dubbed the Fenty Effect, many popular makeup brands rushed to follow in Fenty’s game-changing footprints or risk public boycotts.
Fenty Beauty is a Kendo-owned brand valued at approximately $3 billion according to Forbes magazine. In 2020, Fenty Beauty expanded into skincare.

Fenty Beauty Deep Neutrals Snap Shadows Palette Claims
According to the Sephora and Fenty Beauty websites, buyers should expect to receive travel-friendly, mini 6-pan eyeshadow palettes that contain a range of shadow finishes. Also, each shade promises to be smooth and blendable.
Here’s how the Sephora website describes the Fenty Snap Shadows:
A portable mini eyeshadow palette of six shades in a range of matte to shimmer finishes. Use them solo or snap any two palettes together for your own custom combo.
On the Fenty website, here’s what the brand says:
Snap any two palettes together to customize your perfect combo. Each palette includes 6 rich, smooth, blendable colors in a range of matte, shimmer, and glitter finishes. Rihanna specifically chose each shade to deliver only the colors you’ll actually want to use—no more wasted shades!
Within the Fenty Snap Shadow range, there are 8 permanent palettes and two limited edition releases:

Each Fenty Snap Shadow Palette comes in a simple white, plastic palette. Size-wize, the palette is roughly the size of the palm of your hand. The palettes are designed to standalone or to easily snap toghether.

Ingredient Analysis
The top 10 ingredients of each shade in the Fenty Beauty Deep Neutrals Snap Shadows Palette varies. However, the below represents the most commonly found ingredients amongst all 6 shades in the palette.
Ingredient | Makeup Benefits |
Talc | Often the main ingredient used in loose and pressed eyeshadows, face powders, etc. Contamination from asbestos remains an on-going concern regarding Talc is cosmetic and personal care products. |
Mica | Mica is a naturally occurring mineral dust used in makeup for its shimmery effect. However, there are ethical concerns regarding Mica mining. |
Dimethicone | A silicone-based ingredient that is used to give products a smooth, silky feel. |
Zinc Stearate | A commonly using binding agent for powder makeup to help powders stick together and adhere to the skin. |
Caprylyl Glycol | In makeup, this ingredient is a common stabilizer that increases the efficacy of preservatives. |
Zea Mays (Corn) Starch | May help to a product’s blend-ability while providing a mattifying effect. |
Ethylhexylglycerin | May help to enhance the function of preservatives in cosmetics. |
Triethoxycaprylylsilane | A clear, light yellow liquid used to coat pigments in cosmetics. This helps to stabilize the pigments so the color is not patchy. |
Alumina | Common cosmetic ingredient used to prevent caking, bulk, and used as an absorbent. |
Overall, the Fenty Snap Shadow formula contains standard ingredients commonly found in many eyeshadow formulas. With that being said, Talc and Mica remain two of the top ingredients for these shadows. Although deemed ”safe,” by the FDA, these ingredients may pose health or ethical dilemmas based on their mining processes.
Finally, Bismuth Oxychloride (Ci 77163) shows up in four out of six of the shadows’ ingredient lists. To note, some individuals experience a reaction to this common cosmetics ingredient.
Product Swatches
As always, swatches are not a perfect indicator of quality. However, swatches may provide clues about a product’s color payoff and ability to blend.
The below swatches were done using my fingers on a bare arm. No primer.

As you can tell by the swatches, the deeper shades took a lot of building. However, I still could not build full opacity of the deeper mattes.
Application & Wear-Time
Compared to many of the most popular formulas on the market, the Fenty Snap shadows are much stiffer and far less powdery. With that said, the mattes take more work to blend on the eyelids.
Matte shadows aside, a common complaint for the Fenty Shadows pertains to the shimmer formula. Again, compared to many of the ultra-metallic formulas on the market the Snap Shadow metallics appear dull. Although not a metallic formula, I appreciate the shimmers for what they are: a soft, diffused metallic wash of color.

Where are the Fenty Beauty Snap Shadows sold?
Within the US, Fenty Beauty is sold exclusively at Sephora and the Fenty Beauty website. Also, Sephora Canada sells Fenty. In the UK, Harvey Nichols sells Fenty.
Final Thoughts on the Fenty Beauty Deep Neutrals Snap Shadows Palette
Overall, the Fenty Beauty Deep Neutrals Snap Shadow Palette is a well-executed, warm-toned neutral palette. As someone with a large collection, I love how each palette looks ultra-curated and is travel-friendly.
With the above being said, the Fenty eyeshadow formula is not an all-time favorite. While I appreciate that the stiffer formula produces less fallout, I need to work harder to blend these shadow than I typically do. Moreover, I usually need to reach for a lighter transition shade from another palette when I create a look with the Deep Neutrals Palette.
All-in-all, I like the Snap Shadow formula enough to pick up another 6-pan palette from the range. However, these shadows are not a “must-buy” for anyone other than Fenty collectors or travelers in need of a petite palette.
Finally, many influencers who tried all 8 of the original palettes noted that there were inconsistencies between each palette. In other words, some palettes received praise while others were trashed. For example, the Deep Neutrals Palette seemed to receive generally positive reviews, while the Smokey palette received generally bad reviews.

That’s a beautiful shadow! I love shimmering neutral tones!
Me too!! I’m such a sucker for neutrals!!
These palettes are so not my thing, while I like the size I don’t think the the shade ranges are for me, they often look a bit off. I feel like when she’ll launch a shade I really like, I’d get one to try but so far no one caught my interest
I agree with you on this – I kinda feel like although you *CAN* purchase 1 palette on its own, you really need to purchase 2 in order to have a more cohesive / complete color story. Like I think this palette + the true neutrals palette or the cadet (green palette) would be so gorgeous.
I never wear green so I wouldn’t know but I see your point!
I’m grateful for your thoughtful review of this palette, LP. Even if they weren’t top notch, must have, you look beautiful as always!
Thank you, Jennifer! I try to be as honest as I can – I think when it comes to beauty products for the most part whether or something is good or bad is so subjective. With my reviews I just aim to help people make informed decisions! So even though it’s not a must-buy for me, someone else may love this!
I saw this palette recently when I was in Sephora, definitely my favourite from the range as I love the tones – very autumnal!

This really is a perfect Fall palette in terms of the color story! P.S. I would LOVE to visit a Sephora outside of the US so that I can discover more amazing brands that sell outside of the US!!!
Amazing review, this palette looks beautiful🔥🤍
I don’t own any of the snap shadows from Fenty Beauty but I do have the Moroccan Spice Palette. Personally, it’s not a fave of mine, but I don’t get why it flopped so hard. There are some really fantastic and unique shades in the palette, even though some of the formulas take a bit of work/building.
This mini eyeshadow palette looks super pretty. The shades do look like they have a stiffer formula, but I love the idea of a smaller palette for when you’re on the go. Also, I LOVE that Fenty Beauty is inclusive. I always support the brand
