5 Easy Steps to Repress a Shattered Eyeshadow! February 18, 2020
Is there anything more disappointing than an eyeshadow shattering in the pan? Whether you’ve shattered the shadow by dropping it or whether your new eyeshadow arrived broken, there is an inexpensive and simple way to repress a shattered eyeshadow. Please keep reading for 5 easy steps to repress a shattered eyeshadow without breaking the bank!

Sadly my A.M.I Hearts Beauty x Amy Loves Beauty Alma Palette arrived with two shattered shades
5 Easy Steps to Repress a Shattered Eyeshadow without Breaking the Bank
1 | Gather Supplies & Find a Clean, Flat Surface
The first easy step to repress a shattered eyeshadow is to gather the supplies needed to revive the shadow. Thankfully, it is easy and cheap to repress an eyeshadow. Most of the supplies needed should be readily available items.
Personally, the kitchen table, the bathroom counter, or a desk are the most logical areas to repress a shadow. These are surfaces that are flat and can easily be cleaned.
Supplies needed: Rubbing Alcohol, Sharp Object (knife, fork, small pair of scissors, tweezers, etc.), and tissues

Step 2: Crush the Shattered Shadows More!
2 | Break up the shattered shadow using the sharp object
Although this may seem counter-intuitive, you must further break the shattered eyeshadow to repress the shattered eyeshadow later.

Step 3: Mix Rubbing Alcohol in with the shattered eyeshadow
3 | Mix rubbing alcohol into the shattered eyeshadow
Once the shadow has been broken apart, begin to slowly mix rubbing alcohol into the pan of the shattered eyeshadow. Using the sharp object, mix the rubbing alcohol together with the shattered eyeshadow powder until a paste-like consistency is achieved.

Step 4: Place a Tissue Over the Shadow Mix to Soak Up Extra Liquid
4 | Place a tissue over the top of the eyeshadow paste
Once the shattered eyeshadow has been mixed with the alcohol, gently press half a tissue over the top of the wet pan. The tissue will help to absorb excess liquid.

Step 5: Let Your Shadows Dry
5 | Let the Shattered Eyeshadow Dry!
The final easy step to repress a shattered eyeshadow for cheap is to set the paste-like shadow out on a flat surface and let it dry overnight.

And Voila: You Now Have a Perfectly Usable Palette!
Final Thoughts
If an eyeshadow has arrived on your doorsteps damaged, I recommend reaching out to the retailer or brand before you start to repress the shadows. It is the brand’s responsibility to ship your items with care.
Should an item arrive damaged, do not be afraid to advocate for yourself. Ask for replacement shades, a new product, a partial refund, or even a full refund. If a brand gives you a hard time, your bank or credit card service can assist you in withholding payment!
But what do you do if a limited edition palette or shadow arrives shattered? Try following these 5 easy steps to repress a shattered eyeshadow. While a shattered eyeshadow may not look as pretty once it is repressed, it should perform the same (or similarly) to a new shadow. If all else fails, try looking for a new or gently used product on Poshmark or Mercari!
In my case, repressing these two shadows from the Alma Palette cost me nothing monetarily but time. I used household items that I already owned. (P.S. I did request replacement shades, too.).

Disclaimer: I really enjoy A.M.I Heart Beauty and the performance of these shadows. They are in an indie beauty brand worth supporting. I believe that this issue occurred as a result of the brand being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of orders they experienced during the holiday period.

An informative blog, 5 simple steps that look easy to do!
This is so super helpful – I didn’t even realise there was a way to repair them – thank you for sharing these tips, I’ll definitely try them when it happens to me next x
For a long time I didn’t realize how simple and inexpensive it was to fix a broken shadow or pressed powder product!
That’s awesome! Thank you so much for the tips I’ll definitely use them. Do you think that this would you work on a pressed powder?
Yes 100% – this technique will 100% work for pressed powders, shadows, cheeks products, etc!! 😀
This is so helpful!
I hoped it would be helpful! It sucks when a powder product breaks like this!
I know this might sound dramatic but honestly it’s kind of heartbreaking!
I didn’t realize you could fix shattered eyeshadows. Fortunately, I have never had any, but I will definitely keep this in mind if I end up shattering any in the future!
This was something I learned about a few years ago, but never tried until this year. Def great that you haven’t had a shadow shatter on you, but good to know you can always fix something in the future if the need arises!
I love how we both did a post on this lol! I loved reading yours. My heart always hurts when seeing broken shadows! Most of the time, I don’t request a new palette because it takes so long to replace it lol but if I buy makeup in my country and this happens, I also request a replacement. 🙂
I literally die b/c I feel like we write these around the same time, but my posts take forever to actually come out because of how far ahead I write sometimes LOLOLOL!!
I’ve only had a shadow come broken one or two times, but I do request that the shade be replaced (pending how badly it shattered!)
Lmao I think you’re right! I still want to be as good in writing ahead as you though lol
oh girl, I’ve fallen behind and I am now trying to play catchup!!! I’m trying to get all of April and May done, so that all I need to focus on is spreading love / doing promo / and making revisions. But thank you!!! Gotta get on your level with Pinterest. Also, I finally created an FB page for my blog (but I need to change my FB name so that people don’t know my last name lol).
I feel like I’m catching up all the time! I need to be more organized lol. Yess, I’ll follow your FB page once you’re ready 🥰
I’ve thankfully never experienced any broken eyeshadows within an eyeshadow palette. However, if I ever receive an eyeshadow palette that contains broken shadows, I know how to fix them. Thanks for sharing such a helpful post!
I hoped this would be helpful because for a long time I didn’t realize that you could repress powdered products like this!
Thank you for sharing this! I have shattered my shadows in the past and wish I could have repaired them instead of getting rid of them! I will def share these tips with my cousin’s wife – their two year old has destroyed multiple palettes, so hopefully she can repair some of the eyeshadows using these tips!
Much love always,

oh no!!! I hope you will find this helpful – you can def bring back eyeshadows, or other products back from the grave using this method! They won’t look as pretty (lol), but they will still work just as well! 🙂
Oh wow! I always wondered how to repress makeup. It was so cool to see the paste-like texture when you mixed in the alcohol. I wouldn’t expect that they still perform the same because they ended up looking so strange lol. I hope they were able to send you an all new palette. I hadn’t heard of this brand before!
