Sometimes a regular lipstick just won’t cut it. In today’s post, I’m sharing my honest lip crayon ranking for everyone who loves the look of a bullet lipstick, but needs the ease of a pencil.
Honest Lip Crayon Ranking
6 | Reina Rebelde Bold Lip Color in Xicana ($16.00, CF)
I received the Reina Rebelde Bold Lip Color in Xicana* for free after attending Beautycon NYC. The shade is a deep, brown-tone that is stunning, but not something I reach for as often as other lip products on this list.
5 | NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in Pecan ($4.50, CF)
The NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in Pecan is a beautiful, creamy mauve-nude color. This lip pencil provides a pigmented, glossy satin finish. Also, I’d even consider the color a close dupe to Bite Beauty’s Glace Lip Pencil. However, the NYX Jumbo Pencil is not as long lasting. Sadly, this classic NYX product was discontinued sometime in 2019 or 2020.
4 | Nudestix Intense Gel Color Lip + Cheek Balm in Siren ($24.00, CF)
The Nudestix Intense Gel Color Lip + Cheek Balm is a newer lip formula to the brand. Instead of the traditional matte finish, the gel lip color provide a glossy shine. The shade Siren* is a vibrant, high shine red.
3 | Bite Beauty – Matte Creme Lip Pencil in Glace ($24.00, CF)
The Bite Beauty Matte Creme Lip Pencils are a highly pigmented, long-lasting, comfortable formula. Additionally, the shade Glace is a stunning mauve-toned nude that I love to reach for on days when I want a look that is simple, but still put together.
The original Glace formula was discontinued in 2019. However, the brand brought back this iconic shade in its new Vegan formula.
2 | NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Cruella ($13.50)
NARS’ lip pencils have been staples in my collection since I first began wearing high-end makeup. In fact, the shade Cruella* is one of the only lip products (aside from lip balm) that I’ve ever repurchased.
It is such a classic, deep red that is flattering on so many skin tones. Also, it never makes my teeth look yellow!
1 | NudeStix Intense Matte Lip + Cheek Pencil in Vintage ($24.00, CF)
As a whole, Nudestix makes one of my favorite lip crayon formulas. In general, the brand’s products are pigmented and long-lasting. Most importantly, they are matte without looking flat or feeling drying on the lips. Although not my typical shade, the matte lip pencil in the shade Vixen* is a unique vampy neutral that adds an instant touch of glamour to any look that I create.
Final Thoughts on my Honest Crayon Collection
Were you surprised at my little honest lip crayon ranking? Compared to the size of my nude and red bullet lipsticks, I own so few lip crayons. Overall, I enjoy lip pencils like the ones mentioned above due to the way that they provide bullet lipstick quality with lip pencil precision.
Also, lip crayons are a great way to to simplify your makeup routine. Products like the ones mentioned above can be easily worn on their own, without the need to apply a lip liner.
However, I noticed that my lip crayon preferences differ from my bullet lipstick preferences. More specifically, I prefer cream or satin bullet lipsticks whereas I prefer matte lip crayons. Go figure!
