Boxycharm October 2019 | Best Unboxing Yet!? October 27, 2019
After canceling my Sephora Play! subscription several years ago, I never thought I’d consider a beauty subscription box again. However, after reading countless subscription box unboxings from Hunida, I found myself drawn to the Ipsy Glam Bag & Boxycharm. Keep reading for my Boxycharm October 2019 unboxing to see what I got in my first box.
What is Boxycharm?
Boxycharm is most well known as a subscription box service that features 4-5 full-size beauty products worth $125+ in value for only $25.00 a month. However, in addition to the basic Boxycharm box, the brand offers a Boxycharm Premium box (featuring 6-7 full-size beauty products worth $175+ in value for $35.00 a month), and BoxyLuxe, a seasonal box valued at $275.00+.
Additionally, Boxycharm hosts an online shop featuring past products from boxes. Moreover, many items are available at heavily discounted prices. A small bunch of items can be added to monthly Boxycharm boxes. Also, Boxycharm rewards its subscribers with charm points that can be applied towards purchases once a certain number of points are accumulated.
Why did I subscribe to Boxycharm?
Ultimately, I felt like subscription services changed a lot since I received my last Sephora Play! box in early 2017. Instead of stingy sample-size products, many boxes now feature full-size products that retail for high values.
Realistically, as a beauty fiend and marketer, I know that much of what ends up in most boxes either come from small, challenger brands trying to grow their awareness or from established brands trying to offload overstocked products. Nevertheless, I’ve seen some pretty amazing items in previous Boxycharm unboxings on YouTube and WordPress.
Although I considered the IPSY Glam bag, I decided to go with Boxycharm after watching countless box comparison videos online. All in all, Boxycharm seemed to feature more well-known names.

October 2019 Boxycharm Unboxing
First, I need to point out that I felt a little uneasy about receiving my first box. It was revealed that subscribers were receiving either the Dose of Colors x iLuvSarahii Palette or one of the brand’s beloved, 5-pan matte palettes. My nerves stemmed from the fact that I own two of the brand’s matte palettes, as well as the iLuvSarahii collaboration palette.

Boxycharm October 2019: Dose of Colors, Iconic London, Touch in Sol, Elemis
Dose of Colors – Marvelous Mauves 5-Pan Eyeshadow Palette | Retail Value: $32.00, CF
I love the Dose of Colors Eyeshadow formula. However, I was nervous I’d receive a duplicate palette from the brand given that I already own three of the brand’s palettes. However, I’m happy to report that I received an iteration that I did not already own. I received the Marvelous Mauves Palette.*
[2020 Editor’s note: I ended up selling this palette online after a major decluttering session. However, I 100% regret that decision.]
Elemis Superfood Vital Veggie Mask | Retail Value: $35.00, CF
Elemis is a brand that I’ve always known about but never tried. Given how ghost-like I’ve been feeling due to my burdensome school and work schedule, I am excited to try the Superfood Vital Veggie Mask.* Between the lack of sleep, lack of proper eating, and lack of hydration, I need all the brightening and skin-smoothing help that I can get!
Iconic London – Nearly Nude Lip Plumping Gloss | Retail Value: $26.00, CF
I love a good gloss and I love trying brands that are new to me, so receiving the Iconic London Nearly Nude Gloss* was a total win for me. However, I do not believe that this gloss is actually worth $26.00. This gloss is $8.00 more than Fenty’s Gloss Bombs. If you read my ultimate lip gloss ranking, you’ll understand why I struggle with the price point.
Illuminati – Black Cosmetic Sponge | Retail Value: $21.00
There is no way that this sponge from a virtually unknown brand is actually worth $21.00… Moreover, at this price, the Illuminati Sponge costs more than the Beauty Blender sponges. Nevertheless, I am a sponge applicator fanatic, so I’m happy to try this sponge.
[2020 Editor’s note: This is an incredible sponge. In fact, it quickly became one of my favorites!]
Touch in Sol | Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm | Retail Value: $35.00, CF
Despite having oily skin, I am super excited to try the Pretty Filter Glassy Skin Balm* with my tinted moisturizers and my mattifying foundations. Moreover, I am hopeful that this primer will give my skin some radiance without making me look like a greaseball. Check out my ultimate primer ranking for oily skin.

Final Thoughts on the October 2019 Boxycharm Box
Despite my initial concerns, I’m thrilled with my October Boxycharm Box. I received a wide range products from skincare to color cosmetics and beauty tools. Moreover, I received items that I will genuinely use. Personally, my biggest fear with this subscription box is that I’ll receive too many items that I already own.
Although I am an eyeshadow palette hoarder, I am most excited by the Touch in Sol Glassy Skin Balm and the Iconic London Lip Plumping Gloss. I love products that make me feel more naturally radiant and lush. Also, I am always excited to try brands that are new to me.
Given that I opted for a 6-month subscription, I will have time to assess how I feel about the box, overall. I plan to analyze how much of each box I use or want to use each month to determine whether the box is worth the price tag.
[2020 Editor’s note: I received my October Box before my September box. Out of every box I’ve received from the brand, this box was the best. In fact, had I not hastily decluttered the eyeshadow palette, I’d still own every product from this box.]

Wow you got that whole dose of colors palette! Might have to look into boxycharm. I feel like some other subscription boxes aren’t worth the $$
For better or for worse, Boxycharm includes a lot of eye and face palettes in their boxes. I enjoyed this month’s box for sure!
This is a really nice box, LP, and I love what you got! I have gotten Ipsy and Birchboxes before. I think I may have told you a while ago, but I tend to not use items I get from boxes and I think it’s for a few reasons, so I try to avoid them now. But. The thing is, I really really love the idea behind them. It’s so fun to be surprised and exposed to new products. I look forward to what you get in the coming months too.
Honestly – I agree with you. I was intrigued by Boxycharm / IPSY Glam Bag because they had full-sizes products, but so far my boxes have been so-so. I did enjoy this month, but I wasn’t impressed by last month.
Also, I own so much makeup that I KNOW I’m going to be given duplicates. I’ve seen spoilers for next month, and every box is getting a mini version of a palette that I already own. I would have been stoked if I didn’t own it – but I do… so it is already a let down for me.
Ahh thtese look great! The Marvelous Mauves are such pretty shades, and the styling (them ridges tho) is also very attractive. Please let us know how the Superfood Vital Veggie Mask goes! It sounds really beneficial for a tired and stressed face lol!
I’ve tried it a couple of times now and I love it!! It tricks me into thinking my skin is healthy lol! 😀
I love that eyeshadow palette!
Me too! It is a very pretty color story!! 🙂
Love unboxing posts!! This is so cute ❤️
haha it was unboxing posts that hooked me into trying Boxycharm lol!
That Dose of Colors palette is absolutely stunning!! This month’s box is a nice one, love the goodies you’ve got!
I was really happy with this month’s box. I’m nervous for next month though… I already own the “big” item that everyone is supposedly getting (which is a smaller version of the Dominque Cosmetics Celestial Storm Palette).
That’s a con about being makeup obsessed, chances are pretty huge that you own an item already 😭
Oh that’s awesome that you received one of the eyeshadow palettes that you don’t already own! The colors look so pretty. I’m probably in need of that veggie mask too lol, life’s been hectic lately.
I’ve been using the mask and I LOVE it – I feel so radiant and healthy when I use it!
That marvelous mauve palette would be so great for a beginner eyeshadow palette (like me)! Too bad they don’t ship here! And their items are so well rounded nothing is redundant!
I think it could be good for beginners, too!! Hopefully, one day they’ll be more widely available.
I tend to stay away from subscription boxes because I don’t have a lot of faith in them, but I’m happy to hear that they’ve changed so much over the years. This box looks really good!
So far with Boxycharm it’s been two bad boxes and one good box, but we’ll see how the next 3 months of my subscription go. I may end up canceling it or trying another variation of it.
I’m so excited my unboxing posts convinced you to sign up for BoxyCharm! I loved reading your thoughts on each product. The palette you got has such pretty shades– so lucky you didn’t get one you already own. I always think they inflate their prices, too, saying items cost more than they actually do, but when I go on the website, it’s never wrong? Interesting.
I hope the rest of your boxes are amazing! 😊
Thanks girl – I just tweaked my preferences to say that I’d prefer mostly skincare and little makeup so I’m hoping that this change will better line up with my preferences or needs.
I am tempted by FabFitFun too TBH… I like that it is only 4X a year and mixes in lifestyle items. Also, even Rihanna’s SavageX has a sub service now!! So many brands are coming out with boxes!
I don’t really like FFF because the stuff always seems a lot cheaper than their listed values. I’d rather go to like Ross or TJ Maxx & pick out my own seasonal lifestyle items, y’know? I was JUST looking at Rihanna’s lingerie subscription. That 65% off sale they got going on this month is teeeeempting me.
