Guess who’s back, back again? LP’s back – hello friends! 😀
Hi friends – I am so THRILLED to be back at it, reading and writing blog posts.
To those I am connected with on
social Twitter, this explanatory post may seem redundant to you, but I wanted to make sure my friends on WordPress understand that I didn’t abandon my blog or suddenly ghost them. After an excruciating June, I took a much-needed, abrupt blogging break where I stopped writing, posting, and promoting my blog, as well as reading and commenting on other blogs.
Why I Took a Blogging Hiatus
As many of you know, I’m currently a full-time graduate student pursuing an advanced degree in marketing. When I went back to school, I quit my full-time job and began working a part-time job closer to home. However, during June, I started working a second part time job (more related to my field) AND I began an accelerated Statistics course. Between my two jobs and my intensive course, I was working seven days a week, with a schedule that was all over the place.
To make matters worse, I went through a very painful breakup with my partner of two years that left me feeling emotionally shattered and alone. Queue Ariana Grande’s entire Thank U, Next album for ~all~ the emotions.
Needless to say, June wasn’t my month. I was perpetually unhappy and stressed. My performance at both my jobs and in my course began to slip. As a way to escape, I started writing and shooting photos for as many blog posts as I could… but this was only to my detriment because I wasn’t dealing with my real life. So I did something I never thought I’d do – I took an unplanned, month-long break from blogging.
Why Taking Blogging Breaks is Necessary
I know that I often speak about the importance of consistency as a blogger (and I actually have an upcoming post full of tips on how to maintain consistency with blogging), but taking a break is sometimes vital for your personal well-being, as well as the vibrancy of your blog.
Whether your blog is a passion project, a side hustle, or a full-time career, taking a break from blogging can be a much-needed relief. Not only does taking a break free up time, but it can lessen the feeling stress in your life by removing the blog-specific pressure related to posting and promotion, as well as provide you with more opportunities to deal with the other issues in your life.
Five Benefits of Taking a Blogging Break
- Increased Free-Time for Personal Activities or Dealing with Life Stressors
- Lessened Blog-Related Stress Regarding Post Performance and Posting
- Ability to Brainstorm Future Blog Post Ideas
- Increased Creativity / Refreshed Feeling
- Time to Tweak Old Posts, Give Your Blog a Face Lift, Create Promotional Graphics or Take E-Courses
Final Thoughts on Blogging Breaks
When blogging becomes more stressful than it is fun or starts to feel uninspired, this could be an indicator that taking a blogging break is necessary. Additionally, when life becomes overwhelming, it is okay to put your blog on pause to increase your capacity for reflection and life betterment.
P.S. Fun Fact: Just because I took a break, doesn’t mean I forgot about you all or your posts. Trust me when I say that if I’m a regular commenter or supporter of your posts, I’ll be playing catch-up over the next couple of weeks… so hopefully you’ll enjoy the love coming your way! 🙂
Missed you all. Missed blogging. Glad to be back.
P.P.S. I gave my blog a little face lift with a newly updated theme. What do you guys think?
