This past February, Melt Cosmetics released its Valentine’s Day themed Modern Love Collection. Within the Modern Love Collection, Melt Cosmetics released the two gel liners, four crushed glitter lip glosses, and the Millennial Pinx Palette.
Unlike most of the brand’s releases, the Millennial Pinx Palette was released to nearly universal hatred. But is Melt’s pink palette really that bad?

The Millennial Pinx Palette comes in a millennial pink (blush), studded version of the brand’s traditional 10-pan cardboard palette packaging.

Melt Cosmetics Millennial Pinx Palette Swatches
As always, swatches are not a perfect indicator of quality. However, swatches can provide a clue to a product’s pigmentation and ability to blend.

At first, I panicked when I swatched this pink palette. Building up these swatches took a lot of effort. The matte shadows did not provide full opacity or pigmentation upon initial application.
Across the board, fans of Melt Cosmetics love the brand’s matte eyeshadow formula more than the metallic formula. In fact, Melt’s chunky metallic shadows crumble easily. However, the metallics shades in this palette were particularly difficult to layer. Additionally, the formula felt almost sticky. This made it hard to blend on the skin.
What is the application like?
Given how poorly this palette swatched, I was surprised at how well the shadows performed on the eyes. As always, the mattes were easy to build on the eyes and worked well with one another. The pink and red tones layered beautiful to create soft color gradients.
The matte shadows layered easily. Moreover, there were no signs of patchiness when applying with a tapered blending brush or dense packing brush.

Thankfully, the shimmer shadows performed better on the eyelids than they swatched. For the best pigmentation, I recommend using a flat shader brush ( wet or dry) or your finger.
My biggest issue with the this pink palette is the limited color range. Unlike many of Melt’s previous eyeshadow releases, this palette lacks depth. Many of the pink looks end up looking nearly identical to one another.

What is the wear-time?
When worn over an eyeshadow primer, the shadows last on my eyelids for 10-12 hours without creasing or fading.

Final Thoughts on the Melt Cosmetics Millennial Pinx Palette
Is the Millennial Pinx Palette as bad as everyone said it was?
Unlike many who reviewed this palette, I enjoyed this release. I did not face the same issues blending, layering, or building the shadows on my eyelids.
However, I agree with the sentiment that most of the looks created with this palette are similar. Millennial Pinx lacks the depth that is typical for Melt palettes. Moreover, I am unsure how this palette would perform on deeper skin tones.
Is this my favorite Melt Cosmetics Palette? No. But I don’t think it is worthy of all the hate it has received online. I recommend this palette to anyone who is a fan of Melt Cosmetics that enjoys creating soft, pink looks.
Ultimately, I ended up decluttering this palette within a month or two of buying it. In the end, I realized that the Millennial Pinx Palette would never be picked over similar pink palettes in my collection. Passing this on to someone else made me happy.
