How I Sustain Blog Growth
I explained the full genesis of my blog in my first Blogger Recognition Award post. Rather than retelling how my blog got started, I’m going to touch on how I sustain blog growth.
As I sit here and write this post, I am a Full-Time graduate student who also works two part-time jobs with irregular schedules. Even though blogging is my passion, the rigor of my coursework and work commitments can sometimes dull my drive.
Other times, my workload becomes so overwhelming that I don’t have time to devote to crafting new posts. Despite all these challenges, I posting 2-3 posts a week for six months.
How do I combat these down periods and avoid burnout? Please see my essential tips for sustaining blog below.
Essential Blog Growth Advice for New Bloggers
Consistency is a key factor in success when it comes to blogging. For some, consistency means finding time to write or shoot every single day. For others with hectic, irregular schedules, consistency can be “cheated” by the following blog growth hacks:
- Planning ahead
- Writing a few constant series
- Automating wherever possible
Blog Growth Tip #1: Plan Ahead
There are a few elements that go into planning ahead: creating an edit calendar, writing posts in bulk, and shooting photos in bulk. I typically like to have a month and a half worth of posts pre-written.
From a photography perspective, I shoot my flat lays far ahead of time. Beauty products typically photograph best when they are untouched. Oftentimes, I shoot my photos before I write my post.
Blog Growth Tip #2: Create a Series
I have a quite a few on-going series on my blog: Bad or Rad Reviews, Makeup Minimalism, and Blogger Love. I have a few more on the way. Why is it helpful to write posts that are a part of a series?
Writing a few consistent series helps with blog post brainstorming. Writing series helps to speed up the writing process. For example, my Bad or Rad series follows a strict template that I use for every post. A template makes writing easier. It keeps me consistent with the information I share in each review.
Blog Growth Tip #3: Automate Where Possible
I try to schedule all blog promotional posts. Scheduling this helps me to maintain consistency and to sustain blog growth. I use apps like Buffer (for Twitter), Planoly (for Instagram), and the WordPress Scheduler (for my blog).
By automating these posts, I am able to be more consistent with my posting days and times. It makes it harder for difficult or crazy life situations to prevent me from posting.
At the end of the day, consistency is key for maintaining steady blog growth. By maintaining a dedicated schedule, blogging becomes 10X less stressful.
