ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Review

ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette Review, Swatches and Demo

I stopped in my tracks when I saw the promotional images for the ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette. After watching the brand’s Spring Swatch Party, I purchased Sweet Talk Palette. But does it live up to the hype?

Please keep reading for an in-depth review of the ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette*. This review includes swatches and demo looks created with this affordable, coral palette.

ColourPop Brand Ethos

ColourPop’s motto is: Beauty that doesn’t break the bank. The brand, founded by Seed Beauty in 2004, manufactures and sells high quality, affordable, Cruelty-Free beauty products produced right in Los Angeles.

Over the years, the brand won countless beauty awards for their products from Allure, Glamour, Harper’s Bazaar, Influenster, OK! Magazine, People en Espanol, Teen Vogue, and Temptalia.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Claims

The Sweet Talk Palette was created to brighten up your day. According to ColourPop, these shadows are highly pigmented, ultra-velvety and long-wearing. The brand claims that these powders adhere easily to the eye.

This is the first ColourPop palette to feature four different eyeshadow finishes: matte, metallic, pressed glitter, and super shock. More specifically, this 12-pan eye shadow palette includes seven matte shadows, two metallic shadows, two pressed glitters, and one super shock shadow.

Springtime Vibes: ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette

Price & Packaging

The Sweet Talk Palette* retails for $18.00. The price point is wallet-friendly for anyone on a budget.

The Sweet Talk Palette comes in the brand’s traditional cardboard packaging.  Without a doubt, the packaging is visually interesting and flirty. The pinky, coral floral design screams Springtime vibes. In contrast, the black and white newspaper typology adds a harder edge to the design. Also, the inside of palette is a continuation of the mix of hard and soft.

Although the ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette does not come with a mirror, each shade is clearly labeled. The palette is lightweight, but sturdy. Moreover, the compact palette is easy to store.

Ingredients & Cruelty-Free Status

ColourPop is Cruelty-Free, so this palette was not tested on animals. However, this palette contains Talc and Mica, as well as the Red 40 dye. To note, Red 40 can cause allergic reactions or staining for some individuals.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette Swatches

The textures in various ColourPop’s Sweet Talk Palette swatches sold me on this palette. Happily, the Sweet Talk Palette swatched just as easily on my arm as they did in the videos I watched.

As always, swatches are not a perfect indicator of quality. Some shadows swatch beautifully on the arm, but perform poorly on the eyelid. However, swatches can give a good indication of pigmentation and ability to blend. The below swatches were done with my finger on a bare arm without primer.

ColourPop Sweet Talk Eyeshadow Palette Finger Swatches

Row 1: Catch Me (matte pastel peach), Side2Side (warm champagne Super Shock Shadow with silver and pink glitter), Garden Date (metallic coral with a gold sheen), Work It (soft matte yellow orange)

Row 2: Prima Drama (pale rose gold glitter with a copper and gold duochrome shift), Meadow (matte true coral), Early Mornin’ (marigold glitter), Dream Maker (matte soft coral)

Row 3: ICYMI (matte dirty terracotta), Melody (metallic rose with a gold flip), West Side (matte camel), Feel Free (rich matte bordeaux)

The swatches impressed me.  I loved looking at the various textures next to each other on my arm. The juxtaposition of the mattes, metallics, glitters, and Super Shock shadows is visually interesting. The matte shades felt creamy and blended with ease. The glitters and metallic shades glided onto my arm.

I love the ColourPop Super Shock Shadow formula so I was curious to see how Side2Side would perform. Unfortunately, when compared to the traditional formula, Side2Side felt slimy. Moreover, the shadow functions more like an eye topper rather than a standalone shadow.

Application & Wear-time

Everyone was hyped about the super shock shadow and the two pressed glitters. However, I’m going to be blunt: the matte shadows are the star of the show. The matte shadows are creamy and easy to blend. Not only do they work well with one another, but they perform well with other shadow formulas.

Even though the color story of this palette is curated, Sweet Talk isn’t a “one look” palette. The dark matte shadows add depth, while the camel-toned shades create beautiful neutral looks.

The metallic shadows are pigmented, regardless of whether they are applied wet or dry. For the greatest intensity, apply them with a flat shader brush. Finally, these shadows do not crumble or produce a ton of fallout.

All sweet talk aside, the glitters and super shock shadow underwhelmed. Although Prima Donna and Early Mornin’ swatch well, the glitters do not adhere to the eye. In fact, the glitters produce a ton of fallout.  Additionally, I ~hate~ Side2Side. It is a poor representation of the Super Shock Shadow formula.

Finally, from a wear-time perspective, both the mattes and metallics last all day on the eye without fading or creasing.

Demo:  Smokey, Metallic Coral Eye

First, I set my eyelid with my Milani Eyeshadow Primer.  Second, I blended the matte shades, Catch Me, Work It and Dream Maker into the crease. Next, I packed Meadow and ICYMI into the outer-V of my upper lid. Then, to deepen the look, I stamped the shade Feel Free onto the outer-V.

Once I applied all of my mattes, I packed Garden Date onto the center of my eyelid using a flat brush. After, I tapped Melody onto the inner half of my lid. From there, I dipped my fluffy brush back into Catch Me to softened any harsh edges. Finally, I tapped Side2Side in the inner corners of my eyes.

This palette is interesting in that it leans very orange, despite being a coral-themed.  However, in person, the colors look more coral.

Final Thoughts on the ColourPop Sweet Talk Palette

Even though the pressed glitters and the Super Shock Shadow failed to wow me, the quality and vibrancy of the mattes and metallics impressed. Given the quality, ease of use, and affordable price point, I recommend the Sweet Talk Palette to skilled artists and makeup newbies who feel drawn to the colors.
