Look at this stuff. Isn’t it neat? Don’t you think this collection is neat? I was stoked when I saw the ColourPop was collaborating with Disney to launch the Disney Villains collection. But does this collection live up to the hype? Keep reading for an in-depth review of the ColourPop x Disney Villains Collection.
ColourPop x Disney Villains Collection
ColourPop x Disney Villains Misunderstood Eyeshadow Palette
The 15-Pan Misunderstood Palette is comprised of a variety of matte, duochrome, and metallic shadows aimed at enabling you to slay all of your looks. In particular, this palette includes five mattes, two duo-chromes, and eight metallic shadows.
Price & Packaging
The Misunderstood palette retails for $22.00 and may be purchased alone or in a bundle with the Disney Princess Palette.
Inside the ColourPop x Disney Villains Misunderstood Eyeshadow Palette
This palette comes in ColourPop’s traditional cardboard packaging. A holographic villain-themed design adorns the outside of the palette. However, I wish that this palette came with a mirror.
Eyeshadow Swatches
These shadows pack a punch when swatched. Specifically, the metallics swatched like a dream. They were so soft and highly pigmented. However, the formula crumbled due to the soft texture. Also, even though the palette only includes two duo-chromes, many of the metallics contain glitter particles that add visually striking shifts to their appearance.
ColourPop x Disney Designer Villains Misunderstood Palette Swatches
Except for the matte black shade, 101, the matte swatches impressed me. Rather than performing like a true black eyeshadow, 101 swatched more like a sooty grey. Also, The Fates (deep blue) does produce a lot of fallout.
Application & Wear-Time
Although the metallic shades crumble and produce fallout, the overall performance of the Misunderstood palette is consistent with ColourPop quality. Overall, the shades look metallic and high impact on the lids.
Whether applied with a flat brush or a finger, the metallics apply nicely on the lids. Also, the majority of these metallics wore well throughout the day. However, Facile and Flotsam creased badly after a few hours. Use more matte shadows to build a base in the crease to avoid future creasing issues.
ColourPop x Disney Villains Misunderstood Eyeshadow Palette Demo Look
All in all, I recommend applying your eyeshadow first when using the dark colors from the Misunderstood Palette. The dark shades produce a considerable amount of fallout.
Bad or Rad
Overall, with its versatile color selection and high-quality eyeshadows, Misunderstood is a rad eyeshadow palette. Moreover, I loved ColourPop’s take on a dingy, grungy rainbow. Also, the inclusion of the neutral shadows make this a palette that can be used by a broad audience.
Creating bright, colorful looks or dark, grungy looks with the Misunderstood Palette were equally easy. More specifically, I appreciate that this palette felt complete. In other words, I could create a versatile range of looks using only this palette. Companion palettes were not needed.
I recommend the Disney Villains Misunderstood Palette to anyone that wants to experiment with color without purchasing a brights palette. Also, major Disney fans are sure to love this palette. However, this palette looks extremely similar to the MakeupShayla Perception Palette.
Jelly Much Eyeshadows
The ColourPop Jelly Much Shadows promise to provide intense pigmentation with just one swipe of the finger without creasing or fallout. I picked up the Cruella, Ursula, and Maleficent-Inspired Shadows: Perfectly Wretched, Just Your Voice, and Spindle, respectively.

Price & Packaging
Each Jelly Much Shadow retails for $8.00. Unlike the lipsticks, glosses, and highlighters, the Jelly Much Shadows were not included in any Villain Kit.
Also, out of all the products in the collection, the Jelly Much Shadows felt the least inspired. In other words, the lack of fun packaging design made these feel like add-ons. The shadows came in the traditional Jelly Much packaging with a twist top.
Jelly Much Swatches
The below finger swatches really speak for themselves. These are high impact shadows with intense metallic pigmentation. Please note, some jelly shadows from other brands were swatched in addition to the Disney Villains shadows.

Application & Wear-Time
Fingers and flat brushes work to apply the Jelly Much shadows. However, fingers provide the best color payoff. Meanwhile, using a brush provides better control and creates less mess.
Although the shadows dry down quickly, there is still enough time to play with them on the lids. Surprisingly, these shadows play well with powder shadows. Unfortunately, Villains Jelly Much Shadows stain fingers and other surfaces.
Additionally, there is no fallout from these shadows. However, the shadows create weird textures on the eyelids if too much is applied. In cases of over application, the eyelids look crusty and wrinkly.
Bad or Rad
The Jelly Much Shadows are a rad option for anyone who loves rocking impact color on the lids without fussing over the fallout.
[EDIT – 6/21/2020: the Jelly Much Shadows from the Villains Collection dried out in less than a year’s time. For that reason, I do not recommend this formula to anyone.]
Super Shock Highlighters
The ColourPop x Disney Villains Super Shock Highlighters promise to provide the ultimate glow. They are meant to be buildable, blendable, and buttery-soft. I picked up the Cruella, Ursula, and Maleficent-inspired shades: (You Idiots! You Fools! You Imbeciles!, Poor Unfortunate Souls, and Mistress of All Evil, respectively).

Price & Packaging
Each highlighter initially retailed for $10.00 or could be purchased as part of a villain-specific kit. The Villains packaging is different from the brand’s traditional, plastic, twist-top Super Shock Cheek packaging. Instead, these limited edition highlighters come in a cardboard compact with a mirror.
Without a doubt, the highlighters are the best-packaged items in the collection. Both the outer cartons and the highlighters, themselves, feature visually stunning neon representations of each villain.
Highlighter Swatches
These highlighters swatch more subtly than I expected based on how vibrant they appeared in the pans. However, compared to the brand’s traditional Super Shock Highlighters, the Villains highlighters provide more of an iridescent metallic finish with colorful duo-chrome flips.
Finger Swatches of ColourPop x Disney Villains Super Shock Highlighters in You Idiots! You Fools! You Imbeciles!, Poor Unfortunate Souls, and Mistress of All Evil
Application & Wear-Time
As with most Super Shock products, the Villains highlighters apply best using a finger. Despite the colorful undertones, the highlighters appear ‘wearable’ for people who work in professional, office settings.
However, I forced myself to reach for these highlighters. Although the formula was nice, I don’t enjoy wearing colorful or metallic highlighters. Instead, I prefer wet, glossy looking finishes.
Additionally, I felt like these highlighters appeared too subtle. Despite being long-lasting and buildable, they felt non-committal to the colorful edge. Eventually, I decluttered two of the shades. Currently, I Maleficent’s highlighter is the only Villains highlighter in my collection.
Bad or Rad
If you enjoy subtle, colorful, metallic highlighters would have liked these cheek products. Also, I typically do not recommend that anyone purchase a product for the packaging. However, these highlighters were the exception. Die-hard Disney fans would love the packaging enough to keep these highlighters on display.
Ultra Glossy Lipgloss
The ColourPop x Disney Villains Ultra Glossy Lips promise to provide the lips with a glass-like shine, subtle shimmer, and sheer tint of color without drying out the lips. Additionally, these glosses promise to make the lips look juicy and full. I purchased the Cruella, Ursula, and Maleficent themed glosses: Puppies!!!, Sad But True, and My Pet, respectively.

Price & Packaging
Each lipgloss retailed for $7.00, but was available as a part of the Villains bundles, too.
Packaging-wise, the glosses come in clear tubes with black caps featuring holographic designs inspired by the villains. Unfortunately, the gloss applicator is a brush tip. These types of applicators are best-suited for nail polishes, not gloss.
Gloss Swatches
Even though the glosses look very different in the tubes, the color payoff is incredibly sheer. On the lips these don’t show a lot of color variation.
ColourPop x Disney Villains Ultra Glossy Lips in Sad But True, Puppies!!!, and My Pet Swatches
Application & Wear-Time
I hated the feeling of applying these glosses to the lips. I don’t enjoy brush applicators for glosses. Brushes adequately apply lip glosses. Also, the brushes get scraggly and scratchy over-time.
Beyond the applicator, I disliked the thick, sticky texture. Also, the colors looked almost milky on my lips. The irredescant coloring and glitter particles made my lips look washed out. Additionally, the glosses only stayed shiny for an hour or so.
Bad or Rad
Overall, I do not recommend the Ultra Glossy Lips to anyone. More specifically, I don’t recommend these glosses to Disney-lovers either. These glosses are so sticky that they aren’t even worth $7.00.
Lux Lipsticks
The ColourPop Creme Lux and Matte Lux Lipsticks promise to be long-wearing, lightweight lipsticks that won’t dry out the lips. ColourPop claims these lipsticks are super pigmented and apply with ease. I picked up the shades Ursula and Maleficent from the Disney Villains Collection.
ColourPop x Disney Villains Lux Lipsticks in Ursula and Magenta
Price & Packaging
The ColourPop x Disney Villains lipsticks were available as singles or within kits. A standalone lipstick retailed for $8.00, while the full collection bundle retailed for $48.00. Each lipstick came in a villain-specific kit, too. Every shade in the collection was named after the villain that inspired the shade.
The ColourPop x Disney Villains lipsticks came in matte black tubes with silver designs imprinted overtop. In fact, the designs match the prints on the glosses. Despite being so affordable, the packaging feels heavy and sturdy. Also, I appreciated that the shade name was printed on the bottom of each tube. Finally, each lipstick had the word “VILLAINS” imprinted on it. Personally, I loved this little design touch.
Lipstick Swatches
First, I apologize for the blurry swatch photos.
Maleficent is a magenta Creme Lux Lipstick, while Ursula is a blackened plum Matte Lux Lipstick. Maleficent swatched easily, while Ursula required more building. The difference in formula was likely the reason.
ColourPop x Disney Villains Swatches :: Lux Lipsticks in Maleficent & Ursula
Application & Wear-Time
Both Maleficent and Ursula wore well throughout the day when worn over a lip liner. Also, neither lipstick transferred or made my lips feel dry. However, Ursula required building to reach full opacity on the lips.
Bad or Rad
Overall, I think the Villains lipsticks were worth the money given the design and overall quality.
Final Thoughts on the ColourPop x Disney Villains Collection
Overall, the best thing about this collection was the packaging that the Disney Designer Team dreamed up. While I was impressed by the quality of the eyeshadow palette, the ColourPop x Disney Villains Collection was not a must-buy for anyone (except Disney fanatics).
Also, I want to reiterate that I do not recommend the Ultra Glossy Lips to anyone. The glosses felt sticky and uncomfortable on the lips. For a better lip gloss formula from ColourPop, try the Lux Glosses. ColourPop’s newest addition to the gloss family is meant to be a dupe for Kylie’s well-loved High Gloss formula.
