Uoma Beauty is one of the most badass beauty brands on the market. With a mission to redefine and rewrite what it means to be truly inclusive, Uoma Beauty is a brand with a mission that extends far beyond convincing consumers to buy their latest release. The black-owned brand is known for its badass, rebellious spirit that celebrates African culture, its inclusive shade ranges, and high-quality products.
Since exploding onto the beauty scene in 2019, both small and large beauty gurus have featured Uoma Beauty on their channels and raved about the brand’s mission and formulas. Is Uoma a brand that you should consider trying?
Please keep reading for a comprehensive review of Uoma Beauty’s vibrant, blue-red Savage Black Magic Palette, as well as swatches and demonstrations.
What is the Uoma brand all about?
Uoma Beauty (pronounced uh-mah) and means “beautiful” in the Igbo language of southeastern Nigeria. As a brand Uoma wants to rewrite what it means to be inclusive and diverse by celebrating and accepting individuals for who they are. Everything about the brand’s mission exudes empowerment, not just for women, but for all genders, all colors, all races. The black-owned brand was founded by Nigerian LMVH beauty executive, Sharon Chuter and launched in 2019 across the US.
Many of the brand’s products celebrate its African heritage through packaging design, product and shade names, and vivid pigmentation that works for all skin tones. For example, each color in Uoma’s line of matte lipsticks is named after an iconic, rule-breaking woman of color.

Savage Black Magic Palette Claims
Uoma Beauty claims that the Savage Black Magic Palette will provide hypnotic, high octane, high impact and highly pigmented colors with otherworldly sparkle, vibrancy, and texture. Moreover, the brand promises that these shadows will be long-lasting, water-resistant, and lightweight.
The 10-pan palette includes five matte and five shimmer shadows. Half the palette is cool-toned and blue-silver leaning, while the other is fiery and red.
Savage Black Magic Palette Packaging & Price
The Black Magic Palette comes in a sleek, black cardboard palette with intricate, African-inspired design detailing on the front with blue and red strokes. The inside of the palette includes a long mirror and each shadow is clearly labeled.
This 10-Pan Palette palette was designed such that all the shimmers are on the top row and all the mattes are on the bottom row. Moreover, the warm-toned shadows are grouped together and the cooler-toned shadows are grouped together. All-in-all this makes for a clean, cohesive design.
The palette retails for $44.00 USD. Given that the palette includes 10 grams of shadow, this makes the price per gram $4.40 USD. For comparison, Anastasia Beverly Hills’ Soft Glam Palette is ~10.36 grams and retails for $42.00 USD, so the price per gram is $4.05 USD.

Ingredients and Cruelty-Free Status
The Savage Black Magic Palette is Cruelty-Free, meaning that the brand does not test on animals. The palette is free of Parabens, fragrance, and D5. (Note: D5 is not known to be toxic to humans, but is considered toxic for aquatic life. This ingredient is currently banned in the EU. Brands use this ingredient to give products a silky smooth texture.)
This palette is not Vegan, as a number of the shimmer shades contain Carmine. Finally, many of the shadows contain Talc. Visit the Uoma Beauty website for a full list of ingredients for each shadow.
Uoma Beauty Savage Black Magic Palette Swatches
As always, swatches are not always a perfect indicator of quality, but they can provide helpful clues as to how a particular product may perform on the eye in terms of pigmentation and ability to blend. The below Savage Black Magic Palette swatches were done one a bare arm using my fingers.
Swatches of the Uoma Beauty Black Magic Palette
As you can tell by the swatches, Uoma Beauty did not come to play games. Each shadow is highly pigmented and glides onto the arm with ease. While the mattes feel quite creamy, the shimmer shades feel textured and dryer than what I am used to using from other brands. Unlike other high shine metallic shimmers on the market, the shimmers in the Savage Black Magic Palette are much sturdier and more firmly pressed into the pan. Interestingly enough, the shimmer formula feels much more lightweight than many of the dimethicone-heavy metallic shadows on the market.
Storm – matte deep blue
Black Ya’ll – matte black
Foxy – matte light brown
Warrior – matte burnt blush
Ọya – matte blush pink
Metallic & Shimmer Shadows
BLACK MAGIC – shimmery silver with black undertones
FIERCE – shimmery metallic blue
SHE TORE – metallic burnt pink
SAVAGE – shimmery burnt coral red
LIGHTENING – shimmery silver
Savage Black Magic Palette Application & Wear-Time
The matte shadows in this palette do not disappoint. Not only are they incredibly pigmented but they layer well with each other and play well with other shadow textures. Moreover, the harder pressed pans mean that there is significantly less fallout than other popular shadow formulas on the market. For best application, I recommend using a soft, fluffy brush for crease work and a denser brush for packing the shadow onto the outer corner of the eye. Wearers with pale skin tones may need to reach into another palette for a light beige or off white shadow to set the eyelid or to buff out color smoothly in the crease area.
The shimmer shadows in this palette are unique to anything else I’ve tried. Not only are these impactful, and high shine, but they look dazzling and glittery on the eye. When I wear the blue and silver shimmers in this palette, I literally feel starry-eyed. All the above being said I have had a hard time applying these shimmers with a brush. Will a flat or wet brush work? Yes – but brush application requires much more effort and finessing on the eye. For the best pigmentation and quickest application, use your fingers.
The cool tones in this palette are the standouts by far, from both a pigmentation and wear-time perspective. I can wear the cooler toned shades all day for 12+ hours with zero fading, creasing, or transfer. Sadly, the red shades in this palette creased on my lids within a couple hours of application. To note, I always use an eyeshadow primer.
Final Thoughts on the Uoma Beauty Savage Black Magic Palette
Everything about Uoma excites me. Not only does Uoma Beauty produce high-quality products, but the products they create make me feel happy and proud to support the brand. They are a brand that not only talks the talk but walks the walk when it comes to releasing inclusive products.
The Black Magic Palette is a vivid blue-red palette with formulas, unlike others I’ve tried. I feel so glamorous whenever I rock the high impact shimmers on my eye, and I feel badass when I pull this palette out to create a look. If like me, you enjoy vibrant shadows and love color, then I’d recommend picking up the Savage Palette. If you prefer softer green colors, I’d recommend the Poise Palette, or if you’re a neutral-lover, the Poise Palette is a rich neutral palette full of a gorgeous array of brown tones.
