Yearlong Beauty Low Buy | Update #3 (July Recap)

Uoma Beauty | Black Magic Palette in Savage and Badass Icon Matte Lipsticks

LOL – July was a COMPLETE fail for my Beauty Low Buy. Please keep reading to understand why this month was such an utter failure.

Beauty Low Buy 2019-20 Rules Recap

  • I cannot spend more than $75.00 on NEW cosmetics in a given month
  • Exclusions: haircare (I have a sensitive scalp), skincare, repurchases (if I have no suitable alternative ex. concealer)
  • Dollars not spent in a given month can roll forward, but cannot be pulled forward
  • Ex. If I want to buy a $90.00 eyeshadow palette in May, I cannot pull $15.00 forward. I would need to wait until June to buy the palette.
  • Exclusions: Items received via influencer networks, as gifts, or purchased via gift cards do NOT count against the dollar value

Beauty Low Buy Update #3: What I Actually Bought

I am super embarrassed by how much I spent while trying to maintain a “Beauty Low Buy” this month. I will not be sharing this month’s spend due to my shame. To give you an idea of how much I spent this month just know that I spent at least $40 on each of the below brands:

  • ColourPop
  • Dose of Colors
  • Jouer Cosmetics
  • KKW Beauty
  • Kylie Cosmetics
  • Melt Cosmetics
  • Milani Cosmetics
  • Nudestix
  • Suva Beauty
  • Uoma Beauty

Beauty Low Buy Update #3: Navigating the Emotional Extremes of Excessive Makeup Buying

As a whole, 2019 has been a challenging year for me and this Summer has been particularly heartbreaking. As a result of my major emotional slide and extreme school-related stress, I did two things:

I Took a Month-long Blogging Hiatus

For the first time in over half a year, I took a blogging hiatus. I stopped reading, writing, and scheduling blog posts.

Between my personal struggles, my jobs, and my coursework, I was burnt out and lacking the inspiration to write posts or shoot content. Although I stayed active on Twitter and Instagram, I needed time away from my blog to take care of myself. To read more about my hiatus, click here.

Bought Everything I Saw During the 4th of July SalesΒ

Ummm yeah. This was bad… really bad.

Essentially, I went on a week-long beauty bender. I bought anything and everything that I fancied regardless of whether the item was on sale or not.

Stress and fear of failure is a major trigger for my online shopping. The Fourth of July sales served as a convenient excuse to purchase whatever I wanted.

Did I snag a ton of dope products at a steep discount? Hell yeah. Did I spend way beyond my means? Hell yeah. Am I paying for it now? Hell yeah.

KKW Beauty Best of Pink Lipsticks, Liquid Concealer + Pressed Pigment #3

Because of my reaction this month, I decided that I am going to put myself on a strict No-Buy from in August, September, and October. I will only be allowed to repurchase foundation/concealer, haircare, or skincare if I run out of something and have no suitable backup.

Editor’s note: I did not end up going on a No Buy until November 2019. I continued to let hype and stress dictate how I spent my money this fall.

  1. It’s completely okay! There’s no need to be embarrassed. You’ve been making positive changes and doing so well, so just think of this month as a treat month. You can get back on the low spending next month. Everyone slips up and everyone deserves to treat themselves! I’m still proud of you x

  2. I love the haul you got! The brands are pretty diverse, which is great. It takes small steps to reach your goal. I know I have a thing for going beyond my budget @__@. You are fine! It is good that you took a break from blogging. Sending you lots of love for your upcoming goal!

      1. ooo that’s def a pretty one with all the colorful shades! I think if I try a palette from the brand, I’d pick up the Sandcastles in the Sky palette because I like the cool-toned, aquatic color story!! πŸ™‚ Will you be doing a review on the Wanderlust Palette?

      2. Yes that palette is gorgeous, However the next palette I want from them is the little fairytales palette! I might do a review but I’m for sure gonna include it in my upcoming bday haul!

  3. You got some pretty things, LP. I just want to say, and I know I’ve said it before, you are not alone in your emotional overspending. This summer has been rotten for me, too, and I have definitely done my share of shopping. Here’s to the next few months being healthier for both of us. Thinking of you! β™₯️

  4. You don’t need to shame yourself girl because you haven’t failed anything at all! I’m glad that you’re looking for an alternative emotional crutch other than buying new products because that means working on yourself in a positive way. Proud of you for that! I hope that your no buy goes well so that you feel better about things!

  5. Hey, you know what, it’s okay. You bought most of the things at fairly heavy discounts in sales, and you recognise that it was a stress response.
Don’t let any guilt sneak in, make sure that you give yourself permission to still enjoy these products to their fullest and get every last ounce of joy out of them.
