Makeup Minimalism | Massive Beauty Collection Declutter

Makeup Mnimalism | Massive beauty declutter

After a year of buying and trying many new beauty products, it was finally time to evaluate what I owned. I meticulously combed through my collection and got rid of the cosmetic, skin, and hair product that I didn’t like, wouldn’t use or expired.

The below items headed for the trash, as most of these products are now expired or too used to pass on to a family member or friend. Unless otherwise noted with an asterisk, an item is expired. Products that went off either developed a repugnant smell or the formula consistency changed. Note: Not all decluttered items are included in this post, as some items were tossed earlier in the year.

    1. Thank you so much! 💜 I wish these things weren’t going to waste, but I can’t change the past – I can only make better shopping decisions moving forward!

Decluttering really is the best though (especially when whatever you’re getting rid of can be donated or repurposed)!

  1. ahhh I really need to do this!! I hoard so much shit, especially skincare as I feel like I have to keep everything, even skincare that didn’t work for me in case one day I might need it or one day it might work for me, which is so stupid haha!

    1. That’s how I was for the longest time, but the last couple of years I really have been trying to change that mindset! Honestly sometimes I’ll put on cleaning-related shows, like Hoarders (or more recently, “Tidying Up with Mario Kondo”) to help motivate me to get rid of things!!

    1. Thank you so much!! I really tried to be brutal this year since I purchased way to many items in the latter half of 2018. In some ways I was lucky that some of these items had expired because it made the process easier for me to let go of things!

  2. Ah, shoot. I really need to go through my things now. It’s hard for me to part with lipsticks though. I did get rid of my Bane lipstick by Melt. I opened it one day and it was completely melted to the tube – and even that was hard to do! I’ve been lucky to be close to finishing Diva and Ravishing lipsticks from MAC. And who knows what’s in my makeup case… I’m a bit terrified to declutter. It’s very impressive you’ve been able to clear so much out!

    1. For me the hardest category is eyeshadow! 🙈🙈🙈 I buy too much and want to keep it all! But there are certain products that just hold such sentimental value that I can’t imagine finishing them, but I’m impressed that your close to finishing some lipsticks! Eyeshadow, lipstick, and blush/bronzer are truly the hardest things to finish!!

  4. You were so good getting rid of all that! I need to be ruthless and go through mine. I tend to hang on to old makeup, just in case. silly really as it does have a shelf-life! You’ve inspired me to sort mine out. x

    1. Thank you so much, Samantha! 💜 Decluttering Makeup is the hardest thing for me – but there is no use in keeping things that have gone off or that didn’t work for me!

Good luck in going through your collection!

  5. Ooh I love a good declutter! I did this with my collection too, made me realise I need to stop buying make up ! 🙈 I would love to hear your thoughts on the hourglass ambient palette I’ve been debating getting it for ages! Xx

    1. Thanks for your comment, Laura! 💜 and Lol I took of pic of all things I’ve bought that I still in the process of trying or reviewing …. and I seriously need to cut back!

And I liked the Ambient Powder, but I found that I wasn’t reaching for the blush or bronzer shades. The Ambient Lighting Powder provides the sheerest amount of glow for a lit from within/radiant look. However, in retrospect, I wish I had just bought a mini single of Dim Light or Diffused Light rather than the whole palette.

      1. I’m about to start a project pan on my blog to try to get through some of the products I own. Thought it might give me the motivation to stick to them 😂

      2. Ohhh yess! I try to do monthly makeup baskets for project panning! 🙂 It is definitely helpful for getting use out of what you own. Can’t wait to see how you get on with your project!
